"We have no date for her marriage to Henry Iles, born August 21, 1829, but we can assume that 1867 or 1868 would be a probable date as their first child, Bertha, was born Nov. 6, 1870. We can also assume that they were married somewhere in Fairfield county, Ohio, soon moving to Iowa in Davis County, southwest of Ottumwa. They were farm people and Aunt Carrie's husband died when quite young while Aunt Carrie lived until April 28, 1917." The Alspach family, 1738-1967 . Provo, UT. MyFamily.com, Inc.. 2004. NOTE: As found via census records, Caroline's husband was married at least once previously and was already in Des Moines Co., IA in 1860. The above text mentions that they were probably married in Fairfield county, Ohio. If that's the case, that means Henry would've left Iowa and his children by his first marriage, then come to Fairfield county, Ohio to marry Caroline, and then turn around and return to Danville township of Des Moines Co., IA. Caroline and her family were also by that time in Licking county, Ohio; not Fairfield as the text implies.

Little Girl Dies of Burns - Succumbs Ten Days after Fatally Injured, Played with Matches. Mildred Louise Benson, the four year old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Starling Benson, who reside on the Ray Foglesong farm near Colunbia Park, passed away yesterday as the result of burns received ten days ago. The fatal injuries were received when the child, while playing with matches, sat fire to her dress. While her mother was busy in the upper story of the house, the little girl is said to have searched the kitchen cupboard, presumably for candy, but finding the matches, took some of those. Shortly afterward her mother heard her screaming and rushed downstairs. The little girl was running about the yard, sheathed in flames. Mrs. Benson smothering the burning apparel and summoned physicians who at first did not consider the injuries to be of fatal consequence. The little one took a turn for the worse Sunday and Succumbed Monday at the home. Besides the parents, the deceased is survived by a younger sister who was present when the little girl was fatally burned. Funeral services will be held Wednesday... burial in Betzer Cemetery. since I was only 4 when she passed away. She was quite a character. I always
remember hearing that she crossed the US in a covered wagon with her
parents. She suffered from diabetes and had one leg amputated before
her death. What I remember is that she refused to have the other one
amputated and subsequently died. She and my great grandfather [James Durias Good] lived on the family farm near McClure in Damascus township. My grandfather [Roland Cecil Good] had the farm across the street and helped farm both farms all his life. Roland C. was called 'Mike" by most people. I don't have a clue why. We always went to grandparents for Sunday dinner, played in the barns, watched the milking, played softball in the cow pasture and helped gather eggs with Grandma."
