Wm. H. Cody died very suddenly at his home in this city last Tuesday morning about eleven o'clock. He had been sick for ten days previous but was apparently getting better and on last Saturday ventured down town. He was about the house as usual Sunday and Monday and on Tuesday morning was feeling better than usual. At about eleven o'clock while sitting in a chair reading and talking with his wife he passed away without a moment's warning. Mr. Cody had been a sufferer of diabetes for the past year, but it is thought his death was caused primarily by apoplexy.
Deceased was born in Toledo, Ohio, Nov. 28, 1854. When about three years of age he moved with his parents to the state of Iowa, locating in Wapello, where he has resided continuously ever since. On May 5, 1879, he was united in marriage to Miss Louisa E. Foor. To this union were born three children, two dying in infancy, one son, Lee, surviving. Besides his wife and son, deceased leaves two sisters to mourn the loss, Mrs. Jennie VanCott, of Chicago, and Mrs. Fannie Essman, of Berlin, Germany.
The funeral services were held from the home Thursday afternoon at two o'clock, conducted by Wapello lodge, No. 5, A. F. and A. M., of which the deceased was an honored member. The services were largely attended by the friends of the deceased, and the floral offerings from his lodge and from a large number of individuals were beautiful. Interment occurred in the Wapello cemetery.

OBIT: Elizabeth Leah Foor, widow of Wilson Foor, died Jan. 23 at the home of her great niece, Mrs. Thomas Strait, of Houstontown, with whom she had made her home since October 1941. She had been in ill health since early in December. She was born in Bedford County April 26, 1859, a daughter of Benjamin P. and Charity (Foster) Duvall. She is survived by one son, Jess Hastings, Canton, Ohio; six granddaughters, 13 great-grandchidlren and two half-brothers, John L. Duvall of Wells Tannery and Rev. George A. Duvall, Jersey Shore. She was united in marriage three times. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, January 26, in the Akersville Methodist church, of which she was a member, the Rev. Grantas Hooper of Houstontown, officiating. Interment was in Akersville cemetery. [Bedford Gazette, Bedford, PA, Feb. 8, 1946].
DUVALL Dr. Jeremiah Duvall was one of the earliest pioneers on Broad
Top, Bedford County, coming from near Annapolis, Md., shortly after his
return from the Revolutionary War. He was a physician of good standing
and a local preacher in the M. E. Church, dying at the age of 82 years in
1832. His son, Dr. Asa Duvall studied medicine with his father, married
Leah Akers (sister of John Akers) of Akersville and they had six
children. He obtained land from the heirs of Hon. John J. Hamilton in
1833. In 1859 he and his wife deeded same land, which was located in
Brush Creek Township, Fulton County, to their son, Benjamin (B. P.)
Duvall, it being the farm which his grandson, Blaine J. Hixson, has spent
45 years of his life on. The 70-year-old house on that farm burned in
1939, but Mr. Hixson immediately built a modern one on the old
foundation. B. P. Duvall was married twice and reared his family on this
farm, living there until his death in 1902. He was very active in the
work of the church and many of his descendants are engaged in religious
activities in various places.
His son, George A. Duvall, is a minister; his son, W. H. Duvall,
gave three sons to the ministry; his son, A. W. Duvall, has probably
attended more sessions of Sunday School at Akersville than any person now
living; a grandson, O. R. Duvall, was one of Akersville praying fathers;
his grandson, George S. Hixson, is a minister, and the writer is a grand
daughter. Mrs. Elizabeth Foor, 82 years old, a daughter of B. P. Duvall,
who lives in the W. F. Hixson home, has been tenderly cared for by her
grand niece, Mrs. Naomi Hixson Strait, since she suffered a hip injury in 1940.
Porter G. Duvall, son of O. R. Duvall, is Sheriff of Fulton
County at the present time.
There are more descendants of B. P. Duvall living at Akersville
than any other name at the present time. "History of Akersville Pennsylvania
and One Hundredth Anniversary of the Akersville Methodist Sunday School [June 1941], submitted to USGenWeb by Michael S. Caldwell.

"At age 38, Peter Foor, a Bedford County farmer, enlisted in
Company K of the 208th PA Vol. Inf. on August 18, 1864 in Bloody
Run, PA. Due to exposure to bad weather without a tent to sleep
in, he developed a lung problem near Petersburg, VA and was sent
to various hospitals from December 14, 1864 - March 1865. He
returned to duty on March 18, 1865, just in time for the action at
Fort Stedman. He was at the fall of Petersburg, VA, on April 2,
1865, where he lost his brother, Simon Peter Foor, Jr., also in
Co. K (ironically one week before the war ended). He was
discharged when his company mustered out on June 1, 1865. Because
of his lung ailment (and resulting heart problem), he was unable
to work more than half a day in a 24 hour period, for which he
received a disability pension for 21 years. He died on March 2,
1900, in Cypher, PA, and was buried with his relatives in the Rays
Cove Christian Church cemetery near Everett, Bedford County, PA.
His stone and GAR marker are intact." (David Stoner).
