"...who was of German ancestry but was born in PA. When he came to Ohio to seek a home he settled in the woods in Bloom Twp... and entered a quarter section of land which, in large part, still belongs to his descendants. His humble home was a log cabin built as near as possible to a stream of water, and in 1815 he erected a log barn, building it so compactly that it still stands and is one of the landmarks in the township. Scarcely less so is the brick dwelling that he put up in 1820, which serves still and is in fair condition...", "History of Fairfield County and Representative Citizens", Charles C. Dec. 18, 1895 issue - former Fairfield county resident, Elijah Dove, died at his home in Shelbyville, IL, at an advanced age. "Genealogical Abstracts from The Lancaster (Ohio) Gazette, V4, 1891-1895", Fairfield County Gen., Society, March 1999, p 98.
1895 - Will of Elijah Dove. The will of the late Elijah Dove was probated here Thursday. It is dated Jan. 8, 1890, and is signed by J. W. Powers and A. Middlesworth, respectively cashier and president of the First National Bank, as witnesses. Theodore F. Dove of this city, a son of the deceased and an attorney, is made executor and the entire estated, valued at from $25,000 to $30,000 -- is left to him in trust, to distribute as follows: Samuel Dove, a son, $10; T. F. Dove, two-thirteenths of the estate; to each remaining living child, one thirteenth of the estate. The part that would have gone to two sons now dead, is to be given to t heir children, share and share alike. The instrument provides that the executor is to have absolute freedom of action, and can dispose of all real estate in such time and manner as he deems best. He is given unlimited time in which to close up the business and it is to be relieved of all and every legal restraint. [Daily Review, Decatur, IL, Dec. 24, 1895]
"DOVE, ELIJAH, of Bloom township, was born where he now resides,
in the year 1811, and where his father entered land in an early day.
Mr. Dove received but a limited common school education in his
early life; he has however been a constant reader and hard student,
devoting his time principally during these latter years to religious subjects
and to his church. He was virtually the founder of the M. E. Church
in Carroll, over forty years ago, and has been not only an official
member since that time, but one of its warmest supporters; and has seen the
society grow in numbers, from ten or twelve to that of a hundred and
twenty-five. He was married in 1835, to Miss Mary Small, in every
sense a godly woman and a true helpmeet in society, church and family.
She died September 1, 1877, leaving behind her a family of fifteen
children, thirteen of whom are living, and are members of church.
John W. Dove, the oldest son, was a captain of a company in the late
war. Joseph, the youngest son, is at home, and is the present superintendent of the Methodist Episcopal Sabbath school at Carroll.", HISTORY OF FAIRFIELD AND PERRY COUNTIES, OHIO, THEIR PAST AND PRESENT, Compiled BY A. A. Graham, W. H. BEERS & CO. 1883, p 296.
[Note in the below it says Elijah died in Illinois]
"The grandfather of Mr. Dove, Elijah Dove, was born in Fairfield County, Ohio, July 27, 1811, where he spent most of his life and raised his family. In later years he went to Illinois and spent the rest of his life in that state. He died at Shelbyville, Illinois, in 1906. Elijah Dove had two brothers, Ruben Dove, whose home was in Winchester, Ohio, and Jacob Dove of Warsaw, Indiana. There were five sisters, namely: Laney Dove (Montgomery), Peggy Dove (Orwic), Mary Dove (Hummel), Annie Dove (Benadnur), all of Winchester, Ohio, and Elizabeth Dove (Kistler) of Warsaw, Indiana. The wife of Elijah Dove, Anna Mary Small, was born in York, Pennsylvania, March 18, 1814. She was a daughter of John and Elizabeth (Louchs) Small, both of whom were born in York County, Pennsylvania, John Small on September 16, 1781, and Elizabeth Louchs on January 16, 1794", A Standard History of Kansas and Kansans, written and compiled by William E. Connelley, Secretary of the Kansas State Historical Society, Topeka. Chicago: Lewis Publishing Company, copyright 1918; transcribed 1997.

"Jacob Feller and wife are yet residing on the farm where they settled in October, 1831. He was born in Pennsylvania, in 1806, and the next year his parents removed to Fairfield County, Ohio, where Jacob grew to maturity. In November, 1829, he entered the northwest quarter of Section 26, Findlay Township. In 1830 he was married to Miss Mary Powell, of Fairfield County, and the following year settled on his land. Seven sons and five daughters were bore of this union, nine of whom are living and three sons residents of the county. Mr. Feller and wife are one of the oldest pioneer couples in the county, where they have resided a continuous period of fifty-five years.", "HISTORY OF HANCOCK COUNTY, OHIO", Warner, Beers & CO., 1886, p 526.
"JACOB FELLER, farmer and stock raiser, P. O. Findlay, was born in Northampton County, Penn. , in 1806, and the following year his parents, Frederick and Susanna (Rabinalt) Feller, moved to Fairfield County, Ohio, where our subject was reared. In October, 1831, Jacob Feller came to this county, and has been successfully connected with his present industry (farming and stock raising) since. He was united in marriage, in August, 1830, with Mary, daughter of Peter Powell, Esq., and to them have been born seven sons and five daughters: Eli, deceased while young; Jonathan, a member of Company A, Twenty-first Regiment Ohio Volunteer Infantry, died in the army; Susanna, deceased wife of Samuel Biggs, Esq. ; Samuel, residing in Dakota; Paul and Jacob, farmers of Findlay Township; Mary, wife of G. D. Insley, of W ood County, Ohio; Enos, residing in Wood County, Ohio; Elizabeth, wife of John D. Wagner, of Frankfort, Dak.; Timothy, a merchant. of Findlay, Ohio; Ella, wife of Marion Cog, of Wood County, Ohio, and Sarah Ann, wife of Adam Wagner, of Indiana. The subject of this sketch, Jacob Feller, Sr., came to this county when it was nearly new, and, settling in the woods, cleared land and made a home for himself. By steady and persistent industry he accumulated property, until at one time he owned over 400 acres of land. He is a worthy citizen, and a good husband and father, and has given each of his children a good start in the world. He is a member of the Evangelical Church; in politics a Republican." "HISTORY OF HANCOCK COUNTY, OHIO", Warner, Beers & CO., 1886, p 745.
