Mrs. Hoy was a member of the Bloom Chapel congregation of the Evangelical Association. She was an exemplary christian, a faithful wife and an affectionate mother. She leaves a husband and two daughters who mourn, yet not as those who have no hope. Her funeral was held at the same with her daughter Emma, Monday, Nov. 23d. It was very largely attended testifying to the respect in which she was held by the people. A large circle of relatives and friends regret her death and sincerely sympathize with the deeply stricken family. THE OHIO EAGLE, Dec. 31, 1885, p 5.

NOTE: I think the "two daughters" was actually suppose to be "two sons", as it appears both of her sons were still living and she died the same day as her only surviving daughter, Emma.

MARRIAGE: From the online site of Michael Robert Fritsch, 6016 Beaumont Drive, Fort Wayne, IN 46825-4502, Oct 1998. Emailed him and he's not responded. Believe 'my' Glenn Roger FOOR is the same as his Glen Roger Foor. Although the spelling of the first name is off, and no dates of birth or locations are given for either Glen (mine or his), his website deals alot with those of Adams Co IN, and my Glen is descended from a father born in same county. Therefore, I'm assuming the Glen in Fritsch's database is the same as mine. He shows additional information -- a spouse and two children, which I've added.

DOB/POB: From himself via email, Sept., 1999, decccr4@decaturnet.com.

She shows he's the son of William HARRIS and Hannah NEEDLES and that he married Susannah CUBBAGE. This is an obvious error in location of death. Other submissions show Abraham dying in Fairfield Co., Ohio.

[T11135]
Perry Lehman died 25 Jan 1915 at 61. Son of Jacob and Effie Lehman, born 21 Feb 1853 at Lithopolis. Member of Lithopolis Lutheran Church since early manhood. Married Ellen Maria Scheffler 28 Mar 1872 by Rev. Joseph Beck. Had two sons and two daughters of whom three are living -- Frank A., Minnie Crepps, and Margaret Taylor, all of Columbus. Son Edward died April 13, 1881, at 2y; mother died 21 Mar 1905. Mr. Lehman married second Margaret
OYLER of Columbus in Feb., 1906 at Covington, KY. Mrs. Lehman, by a former marriage, had 3 children. The youngest, Miss Helen, made her home with them. With the exception of 5 years, Mr. Lehman spent his entire life in Lithopolis, the early part as a carpenter, the last twenty years in the hardware business. Also surviving are three sisters and four brothers. Buried in Lithopolis by first wife. (Obituary abstract, CANAL WINCHESTER TIMES, 4 Jan 1915-- note that date of publication must be in error]

"Mr. C. P. LEHMAN for many years undertaker at Lithoplis died Tuesday afternoon at his home in Columbus. Deceased was a brother of Mr. E. [B.?] Lehman of East Sixth Avenue this city. The funeral will be held in Lithopolis at 10 o'clock Thursday morning and burial will take place in the Lithopolis Cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. E. B. Lehman, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Lehman of this city will attend the obsequies. LANCASTER DAILY EAGLE, Jan. 27, 1915, page unk. (Note the obit says he died Tuesday, which would be the 26th. Other obit says he died 25th).

"Across the street from the Elkhorn, however, stands a house whose occupants are well remembered since they were very active in the Village life. When I first remember it, it was the residence of Jacob Lehman. He was a shoemaker, who came to the Village from Middletown, or Oregon, when the hope of that site growing was given up. He was a public spirited man, as were his boys. Can I recall all their names? There were Andrew, George W., Elisha, Perry and Solomon. There were three daughters. These men were so active in the affairs of the Village that they deserve a chapter for themselves. But we must be content with brief sketches. Andrew was a farmer, and did not live in the Village at any time. George W., of course named in honor of the father of our country, was a blacksmith, and intensely interested in political affairs. About his forge gathered many of those likewise interested.... Perry Lehman was the hardware merchant for his lifetime. He was first a partner of Reuben Blackwood, and then of George Wiser. This firm was as widely known as the Village itself. Elisha and Solomon did not spend all their years in the home village, but were there so frequently as to be considered a part.", "THE VILLAGE. MEMORIES OF LITHOPOLIS", John Bartram Kramer, August 1936, p 28.

"George Ring was a native of Vermont. He first located near Kingston, Ross County, Ohio. From Kingston he moved to Berne Township, Fairfield County, and settled on what is now known as the J. R. Pearse farm. There he built a fulling and carding mill. In 1817 he purchased a lot in Carpenter's addition to Lancaster, where he erected a large brick building into which he moved his family. He soon built the woolen factory which was a first operated by water from the Hocking. James Rice was his partner in the mill business and so continued until the year 1833. [Wiseman, C. M. L.. Centennial history of Lancaster, Ohio, and Lancaster people : 1898, the one hundredth anniversary of the settlement of the spot where Lancaster stands. Lancaster, Ohio: C.M.L. Wiseman, 1898, c1897, p 70]

" John Latt, Benjamin and John Connell came to Lancaster about the year 1813 and commenced the business of merchandising under the firm name of Latta and Connell. The store was opened at sunrise and their clerks remained on duty until late at night. John Connell retired from the firm in March, 1823, and in the year 1825 Richard M. Ainsworth became a partner and the firm was known as Latta, Connell and Company. In the year 1828 Benjamin Connell sold his interest and retired to his farm on the hill west of town. The name of the firm was then changed to Latta and Ainsworth. January 22, 1834, John Latta retired on account of poor healt. R. M. Ainsworth, John G. WIllock, who came to Lancaster from Scotland in 1826, and James Rice became the properietors. Rice retired from the firm in 1838 and the business was continued by Ainsworth and Willock until the year 1847. [Wiseman, C. M. L.. Centennial history of Lancaster, Ohio, and Lancaster people : 1898, the one hundredth anniversary of the settlement of the spot where Lancaster stands. Lancaster, Ohio: C.M.L. Wiseman, 1898, c1897, p 94]

"Valentine Wolfe, one of the honored pioneers of Madison Twp., was born and raised near Fredrick, Maryland. About the year 1814 he, with his family, emigrated to Ohio, and cast his lot in Madison township, where he raised his boys and sent them with good habits and strong constitutions out into the world. His sons were Ezra, Salem and Isaac. James Rice, long an honored and esteemed business man of Lancaster, was a step son. James Rice was for quite a number of years a partner of George Ring in the woolen mill business, at the foot of Broadway, Lancaster. He was a partner of Silas Hedges for a short time in the dry goods business, and in his old age was a clerk of John Work in the tin and stove business. He was the father of William P. Rice, who died in California, and whom John Sherman mentions as one of his schoolmates at Howe's Academy. He is mentioned by the Grand Duke of Saxe Weimer, who visited his factory and complimented his goods in the year 1825. Wiseman, C. M. L.. Pioneer period and pioneer people of Fairfield County, Ohio.
