"JOHN CASTANIEN was born in Perry County, Ohio, June 11, 1825. His parents, Alexander and Marelius (King) Castanien, were natives of Prussia and Switzerland respectively, the former crossing the ocean to escape military service, the latter emigrating at the age of four years. They were married in Perry County, where they passed their entire lives, he a farmer and teacher of German schools. He died in his sixtieth year, his wife about the same age. Their children were John, Serenus, Jacob and David. John Castanien remained at home till his twenty-fifth year, obtaining the rudiments of an education and working upon the farm. In 1848, he came to this county, his father having entered his present farm of 100 acres, then covered with timber, which our subject has since removed. He is now the owner of 440 acres; his " bank" barn is the largest in the town ship, and his dwelling was erected in 1863-64 at a cost of $2,000. Mr. Castanien was married in the autumn of 1848, to Christina Alspach, five children resulting-Mahala, Caroline (wife of Emmet Bachtel), Frank, David and Amos E, Mrs. Castanien's demise occurred in 1861, at the age of thirty-five, and Mr. C. was married, November 25, 1863, to Miss Sophia Alspach (sister of first wife), daughter of Daniel and Elizabeth (Runkle) Alspach, natives of Pennsylvania, residents of Perry County, Ohio. She was born April 15, 1837. Their children were William H. and Allen B. In politics, Mr. C. is an independent Democrat. He and his family are all members of the German Reformed Church, of which he was many years a Deacon." "HISTORY OF WYANDOT COUNTY, OHIO", Leggett, Conaway & Co., 1884, p 907 - Pitt Township.

correct family due to the ages and names of the children, and because the
person listed before them is a Joseph KELLER (Joseph Feller, their son), and
then the family listed after them is Samuel FELLER, and after Samuel, Moses
FELLER. Possibly the census taker 'heard' Keller rather than Feller when

[11551] NAME/DOB/POB: Via email from Daniel FOOR [danielfoor@frognet.net] of Huron, Ohio, April 2000.

LOCATION: 1994 - listed with a Columbus, Ohio address [Medina Co., Ohio records]

Dean Charles Foor is listed as a Civil Engineer in Huron, Ohio - listed in the Arizona Professional Registration Roster of Civil Engineers, online database, June 2002.

This may be the Dean C. Foor whose article I found in a Charles Sturt University, Australia, college e-magazine in 2001. It shows his name as Dean C. Foor and has several pictures of him riding a bicycle. For the past 8 years in had lived in Alaska, but made arrangements to spend three years in Australia to follow a life long passion. He was then a student of the university in the wine science course, "his career shift is far removed from devising ways to clean up environmental disasters" as an environmental engineer - a job he had after he left Ohio State University with two engineering degrees in 1993. During those years he "worked accross the United States and spent six months in Germany, devising biological methods to clean up contamination". His love of brewing beer and fruit wine production led him to CSU "and for the next two years he will continue to commit himself to study. A former United States national beer judge, he says the progression was a natural one". The article mentions that for three months last year he cycled around western America, and alone he pedalled his was from Washington across the Cascade Mountains before heading to Idaho, Montana, Colorado, Utah and through the Rocky Mountains. "For Dean cycling is an outlet that gives him time to think and explore. When he eventually leaves Australias sunny shores in 2003, he is certain he will return to Alaska with his bike and perhaps a bottle of his own wine in the backpack". [Nov. 8, 2001, Charles Sturt University, Australia, "A Cycle of Change" article in their e-magazine.]

2008 - listed as one of many surviving grandchildren -- Michael Foor of
Grafton, Douglas Foor of St. Charles, Illinois, Dana Foor Wherley of Akron,
Dean Foor of Eugene, Oregon, Daniel Foor of Mountainview, California,
Christopher and Nicholas Foor of New London -- in the June obituary of Elsie
Viola (Conner) Foor.

[162] BIRTH/BAPTISMAL DATES: "Churchbooks of the Betzer Union/Zion Reformed Church, 1817-1881, Bloom Township, Fairfield Co OH", Fairfield Co Gen Society, 1994, p 27. "Julianna FUHR", d/o "Henrich & Magtalena FUHR". I believe this to be a child of Henry and Catherine as there is a "----iana" b abt 1842. "Julianna" would fit in this time frame, as well as the name. 1850 Census was hard to read. Sponsor for baptism was Christian PRIESTER

Previous to our subject's [Aaron Sands] emigration to Illinois, he was married in Ohio, in 1860, to Julyann Foor, who was born April 3, 1840, and was the daughter of Henry and Caroline Foor. To Mr. and Mrs. Sands have been born 8 children, all of whom have lived to become worthy and reputable citizens and who are now the comfort and support of their parents. They are as follows: Eliza, deceased; James M., Isabelle, Calvin, Otto, Margaret E., Oscar, Minnie and Edward". Shelby and Moultrie Counties, Illinois Biographical Dictionary [database online]. OBIT: FOORE -- Dale, was born on June 24, 1924 in a Six Mile Run in Bedford County, PA, and died at the Evergreen Nursing Home in Owasso, on Wednesday, April 11, 2007. His parents were Marshall E. Foore and his mother was Bertha (Stayer) Foore, and he had 1 sister, Arvilla Whited and 1 brother, Joe Foore, who have all preceded him in death. Dale is survived by: his son, Dr. Ronald Foore of Owasso; and his daughter-in-law, Nanette Foore; and the light of his life his granddaughter, Marissa. His youngest son is Dennis Foore who lives in Tulsa. Dale dropped out of high school at the start of World War II, to enlist in the Navy. Following his basic training, completed at the Chicago Shipping Yard, he spent the rest of the war flying PBM airplanes, searching for German submarines in the Atlantic. He often kidded about the irony that a Pennsylvania coal miner's son spent the war stationed on various Caribbean islands, flying over beautiful blue water. Following the war, he married his sweetheart, Mary Gene Sheterom, of Saxton PA. She was the daughter of Victor and Mary Sheterom. They moved to Tulsa, where he completed his high school credits at the University of Tulsa, which had created a school for returning veterans, and later finished his aeronautical mechanics training at the Spartan School of Aeronautics. Dale retired from American Airlines, after almost 37 years of employment, as a Mechanic, Crew Chief, and Foreman, having served in numerous shops. Dale was a life member of Delta Masonic Lodge, as well as being a 32nd life member of the Tulsa Scottish Rite, where he was a longtime member of the Supernumerary Club, and a member of the American Legion. A Memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, April 13, at the Moore Funeral Home Chapel in Owasso. The family is asking in lieu of flowers that contributions be made in Dale's name to the Oklahoma Masonic Charity Foundation, P.O. Box 2406, Edmond, OK 73083-2406. Moore's Owasso Chapel, 272-3200.
Published in the Tulsa World on 4/12/2007.

"Mr. and Mrs. Peer are the parents of three children, Alvah L., Clarence and Ethel. All of them received their education in the McCracken schools, and all of them had certificates to teach before they were old enough legally to take up that work. Alvah L., who now resides at Oklahoma City, married Bertha Messall and has two children, named Juanita and Philip. He was graduated from the Kansas Wesleyan Business College at Salina in 1900, is an expert pen artist, and his proficiency in that line made him a very capable teacher. He taught in a business college at Savannah, Georgia, also in the Houston Business College in Texas, then became associated with W. B. Elliott as a commercial teacher in Charleston, West Virginia, and from there moved to Wheeling, West Virginia. From Wheeling he went to Tonkawa, Oklahoma, being one of the faculty in the State Normal School there five years. On leaving the school room to take up other business he moved to Oklahoma City, but there again was attracted to commercial work as one of the faculty of Hill's Business College. He is now in business in the development work of the oil and gas fields.

Clarence Peer, who is a rural mail carrier out of McCracken, married Maude Hanel, and their children were Manetta, Willamine and Benjamin. Clarence Peer is a genius with tools of any kind. Though he gives his time to his work in the rural free delivery department, he is an automobile repairer, a carpenter and can turn out a finished job of almost any kind with any class of mechanical tools.

Ethel Peer married Dr. J. O. Stout, a physician of Ashville, Ohio. Doctor and Mrs. Stout have two children, Alleen and May Catherine." From ABC 33 WYTV website:
A Smith Township family is devastated after their two-year old son allegedly shot himself in the chest Thursday morning.

When police got to the home just outside of Sebring, they found two year old Jacob Foor with a gun shot wound to the chest.

He was immediately rushed to Alliance Community Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Jacob's mother, twenty three year old Amanda Saunier and father, twenty four year old Douglas Foor, a part time patrolman with the Minerva Police Department, were home at the time.

Officials say the gun found at the scene was fully loaded, but not Foor's on duty fire arm.

However, it's still unclear how the two year old got hold of the weapon.

"John Thrash. Pleasantly located on section 28 in Philo Township, is a finely improved farm of 120 acres, which invariably attracts the attention of the passing traveler through that locality as the home of a prosperous and progressive farmer and intelligent citizen and business man... Mr. Thrash took possession of the above described place in the spring of 1874, coming to this county from Ohio. He is a native of the Buckeye State, born in Bloom Township, Fairfield County, Jan. 22, 1839. His childhood and youth were passed under the home roof, and he remained a resident of his native county until coming to this vicinity. His father, Michael Thrash, who was born in Baltimore Co., MD., was of German-Irish parentage. The father of the latter was a staunch defender of American liberty and put his theories into practice by serving as a soldier in the Revolutionary War upon the side of the Colonists. In fact, he practically gave up his life to this cause, as he contracted a disease in the army which was the cause of his death not long afterward. His son, Michel, the father of our subject, was then a young boy of six or seven years. The mother followed her husband to the silent land a few years later, leaving the orphan boy without other means of support than that of his own hands. Michael Thrash learned the trade of a tanner, at which he worked, however, but a short time, when he left his native state, and going into Franklin County, Ohio, bought a farm, which he sold the following year and then moved into Fairfield County and purchased a tract of timber land in Bloom Township. He cleared the land and brought it to a tillable condition and established a comfortable home in the wilderness where he spent the remainder of his days. He departed this life in 1863, after having arrived at the advanced age of ninety years. He was first married in Franklin County, Ohio, to Miss Cramer, who became the mother of three children, all now deceased. Mrs. T. died in middle life in Fairfield County. Michael Thrash contracted a second marriage in that county, with Miss Rebecca Rush, who was born in Pennsylvania, when she removed when a young woman to Ohio with her parents. The latter, Jacob and Elizabeth (Cramer) Rush, were natives of Berks County, PA., of German descend, and died in Fairfield County, Ohio. The mother of our subject after arriving at the age of eighty years also died in the latter-named county, in 1880. Michael Thrash served through the War of 1812.

John Thrash was the fourth of his parents' six children, four sons and two daughters, of whom only one daughter is now living, Mrs. Caroline Zahn, a resident of Lithopolis, Fairfield Co., Ohio. The surviving brother is Levi, a successful Buckeye farmer. The childhood and youth of our subject were passed on the family homestead until he was twenty-one years of age. He was married in his native township to Miss Matilda Knepper, who was born in Pickaway County, Ohio, Aug. 9, 1839. Her parents were Joseph and Hannah (Knoyer) Knepper, who were born, reared and married in Ohio, and were of Dutch parentage. After their marriage they located in Pickaway County, Ohio, where the mother died in middle life. The father afterward removed to Jay County, IN., where he died at the age of seventy years. Mrs. Thrash remained with her father until a short time before her marriage. Of her union with our subject there have been born seven children, five living; Emma, who married A. J. Pettigrew, a farmer of Wayne County, IL., and Perry, William, Lydia and John H., at home. Two died in infancy. Our subject and his wife remained for a time after their married in Fairfield Co., Ohio, where he cultivated a tract of land. In the fall of 1873 he came to this state and purchased his present farm in Philo Township...". [ancestry.com. Bower, as administrator of the John Thrash estate, sued Perry Thrash, son of John, for a $2,000 share, claimed by Perry to have been presented to him by his father, which claim the court substantiated today. Her parents were born in Fairfield County, Ohio, and moved to Champaign Co., IL., in 1873, locating on a farm in Philo township. Her father died March 8, 1917, and thus Mrs. Cole suffered bereavement of her father and husband within a few weeks. Her mother passed away October 4, 1906. Mrs. Cole was one of seven children: Emma, wife of A. J. Pettigrew of Wayne Co., IL; a daughter who died in infancy; Perry of Tolono, IL; the fifth child also died early; William lives in CA; Mrs. Cole is the next; and John H. lives at Fort Wayne, IN."
