CONRAD E. Jennison ''Rod'' Conrad, 81, went Home to be with Jesus on Wednesday, January 12, 2005. Rod was born to Noble and Mary Sunday Conrad on September 13, 1923 in Columbus, Oh. He lived in Lithopolis, Oh. until moving to Lancaster in the early nineties. Sgt. Rod was an Army veteran, serving in both WW II and Korean Conflict. He was a Heavy Machine Gunner in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater, participating in the South Philippine Liberation, New Guinea and Luzon Campaigns. He received the APT Ribbon with 3 Bronze Stars, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with 1 Bronze Star, Bronze Arrowhead and the Victory Medal World War II. In the Korean Conflict, he received many Citations and Medals including the Purple Heart. He retired from Columbus & Southern Electric Company serving with the Holtzman Street Garage crew. Survivors include son, Robert (Doris) Weaver; daughters, Ruby Weaver, Charlotte Weaver, Judy (Paul) Groves; daughter-in-law, Mary Weaver, all of Lancaster; son-in-law, Roger Noel of Anderson, S.C.; brothers, Charles ''Chuck'' Conrad of New Hope, Minn., Harold (Kathy) Conrad of Dayton, Oh.; sister, Evelyn (Ralph) Blacksten of Columbus, Oh.; many loving nieces, nephews, grandchildren and friends will miss him. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife Gladys Weaver Conrad, his parents, daughters Betty Weaver Schultz and Donna Weaver Noel, son Derrill Weaver, sisters Verdella ''Connie'' Heston and Judith Doty, brother Clarence ''Red'' Conrad and son-in-law Edward Schultz. Friends may visit 5-8 p.m. Friday at FRANK E. SMITH FUNERAL HOME, Lancaster, where service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday. Burial will be in Forest Rose Cemetery, where the Lancaster Burial Detail will conduct military graveside service.

Searles, Mrs. Alma H., Merrill, Michigan.
Passed away suddenly at her home Saturday, October 18, 1997. Age 82 years. Alma
Zastrow was born August 10, 1915 in Ingersol Township and had been a lifelong
resident of Merrill. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Merrill.
She married John C. Searles April 14, 1934. He predeceased her in 1987.
Surviving are one daughter, Mary Foor, Merrill; two sons and daughters-in- law, John J. and Celia Searles, Jerry L. and Kathy Searles, all of Merrill; 11 grandchildren and their spouses, Albert and Sandy Foor, James and Christine Foor, Michael and Peggy Foor, Brent and Kimberly Foor, Brian and Jill Foor, John and Marlene Searles, Ann Marie and Todd Kissel, Mark, Greg, Chad and Todd Searles; 11 great-grandchildren; three brothers, two sisters and their spouses, Arnold and Laura Zastrow, Saginaw; Ralph and Ella Zastrow, Lake, Michigan; Alfred Zastrow, Margaret and William Bell, Betty and Marlin Alexander, all of Clare; many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by one daughter, Betty Lou; a brother, Norman Zastrow; a grandson, Jerry Lee Searles and by three great-granddaughters. Mass of Christian Burial will take place Tuesday at a time to be announced later at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Merrill. Friends may call at the W.L. Case & Company Funeral Chapel, Merrill, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. on Monday. Those planning an expression of sympathy may wish to consider the Jonesfield- Lakefield Fire Department Rescue Squad or Sacred Heart Catholic Church Building Fund.
