Brossman, Pataskala, against Flora B. Brossman, Pataskala, executor of the
estate of John B. Brossman and the Pataskala Banking company, was filed
yesterday in common pleas court. Pending for more than a year, the case has
had several hearings on motions and demurrers. Pella Brossman alleges that
on jan. 5, 1939, she paid to her son John, $4,0000 with which he was to
purchase a farm near Pataskala. A part of the agreement was that he was to
care for his father, Charles E. Brossman, and his mother, Pella Brossman, for
the rest of their lives. Both are in their 80's. The son died in November,
1940, and Mrs. Brossman alleges that the executor has rejected her claim to
the care and support as agreed by the son. His will left his entire estate
to the widow, now executor of the estate. The mother asks judgment in the
sum of 44,000. Boyd & Boyd, Columbus and Kibler & Kibler of Newark represent
the plaintiff. [Newark Advocate, Newark, Ohio, Dec. 23, 1942]

OBIT: The first fatal traffic accident at one of thte new U.S. 30 bypass intersections occured about 4:55 p.m. Thanksgiving Day when a Bowling Green woman lost her life in a three-car crash. The victim was Velma F. Drummond, 78, of 254 S. Enterprise St., Bowling Green, who died of a crushed chest about one hour after the accident in Van Wert County Hospital. She was the county's eight traffic victim of the year. Six other persons in the accident were injured, three were hospitalized. The collision occured at the Marsh Road intersection. Drivers of the cars involved were Calvin Cloyd Mericle, 73, of Toledo; John A. Walling, 32, of Muncie, Ind., and Peter Clemens, 39, of Rt. 2, Paulding. DOB/POB/DOD: "PIONEER PERIOD AND PIONEER PEOPLE of Fairfield Co.,, OH", C. M. L. Wiseman, 1901, p 125. "For 55 years Mr. Humrighous was an undertaker of Royalton -- in that time he buried 2,500 people, within a radius of 10 miles. At the time of his death in 1893 he was the second oldest undertaker in the United States. He was born on the Huston farm near Royalton in 1811. He married Magdaline Wagner near Carroll, Ohio. They were the parents of 5 children...", Mary Ann m H. S. SMITH of Bloom Twp; John W. m Mary Ann REBER, d/o Thomas REBER. Now a retired farmer of Shelbyville, IL; Irvin m Mary ALLEN and moved to Shelbyville, IL; Lewis m Ellen MURRY; Henry m Mary E. STRAYER. "Henry and Lewis live upon the old home place and carry on their father's old business".
Dec. 23, 1893 issue - John Homrighouse died in Royalton, aged 85y. He was the uncle of Al. Heister of Lancaster. "Genealogical Abstracts from The Lancaster (Ohio) Gazette, V4, 1891-1895", Fairfield County Gen., Society, March 1999, p 55.
"John Homrighouse of Royalton is the second oldest undertaker in the United States. He was born in Royalton on Oct. 14, 1811. The first person he buried was a child of Mr. and Mrs. E. B. DOB/DOD/POBurial: "Cemeteries of Amanda Township, Fairfield County, Ohio", Fairfield County Genealogical Society, April 1992, p 70. Special Note: the cemetery inscription book states he died 19 Dec 1893 at 62y 2m 5d. That works out to being born in 1831. I think the 62 years was misread, and should be 82y, which works out to being born 14 Oct 1811 -- which would agree with the text in the "PIONEER..." book as well as the statement he was the second oldest undertaker.
