Kortni Kay Meyers
(November 6, 1987 - April 10, 2015)

The love of our lives passed away on April 10, 2015 in Oak Park, Michigan. Age 27 years. The daughter of Bradley Meyers and Kimberly (Foor) Dietrich, Kortni was born on November 6, 1987 in Bay City, Michigan. Kortni graduated from the University of Michigan Honors program in 2010, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Brain Behavior and Cognitive Science, continuing with work in the UM Neuropsychology program. She pursued further education as a doctoral student in Wayne State University’s Clinical Psychology program, where she excelled. Her research in aging, memory and depression was published in multiple scientific journals. In addition, Kortni taught at Wayne State as a graduate student instructor in Abnormal Psychology and Introduction to Psychology. She fiercely loved her cats, as she loved all of those around her. Kortni had a unique way of communicating with animals and children, and she had a great capacity for perceiving and understanding others’ needs. She loved gymnastics and was a gymnast for many years. Kortni loved spending time with family and friends, both abundant in her life. She loved Country music, and loved to dance to “Don’t Stop Believin’” and “Livin’ on a Prayer”. Her beautiful smile, endless compassion and love, and a sense of humor which should be bottled with the label, “Pure Kortni” will never leave the hearts of all who knew her.

Surviving are her parents, Bradley (Marti) Meyers, Kimberly (Duane) Dietrich, her paternal grandmother, Barbara (Don) Czernik; step-grandmother, Joan Dietrich, step-brother and step- sister, Brian (Alissa) Trahan, Monica (Marc) Aguirre; aunts and uncles, Dave and Ann Chaltraw, William and Deborah Foor, Blake and Linda Hibray, Daniel and Pam Foor, Janice and Chris White, Todd and Tina Meyers, Vickie Meyers, Robin Jones; step-aunts and step-uncles, Ed and Kaye Proudfoot, Dennis and Karen Olar, Jan Proudfoot, Jim and Patti Proudfoot, Robert and Jennifer Proudfoot, Kim and Donna Sanford, Michael Dietrich; her cousins, Dawn and Robert Levy, William and Rachel Chaltraw, David and Mindy Chaltraw, Stephanie and Nathan Acker, Carrie and Adam LaDouce, Sarah Chaltraw, Dustin Miller, Nathan Miller, Gina Neitling, Jennifer Keller, Kent Keller, Daniel Jones-Foor, Megan and Joshua Thomas, Michael Foor, Matthew Foor, Brenda Foor, Nate Meyers, Robert Meyers, Danielle Meyers, Emily Meyers, Noah Meyers, Riley Meyers, Kiera Meyers, Brielle Rivard, Zach Rivard, Celeste Rivard, Sammy Rivard; several second and step-cousins. And so many, many, many deeply treasured friends. Kortni was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, William and Mae Foor and her paternal grandfather, Larry Meyers.

A Celebration of Kortni’s life will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 17, 2015 at The Snow Funeral Home, 3775 N. Center Rd., (between Shattuck and McCarty). "Dr. E. L. Miner was b in Middeltown, VT, June 9, 1797. He was educated at Castelton College and graduated there in 1818. He was one of the founders of the Presbyterian Church of Lithopolis...", "Pioneer Period and Pioneer People of Fairfield County, Ohio", C. M. L. Wiseman, 1901, p 124-125.

"Dr. E. L. Miner was prominent among the early settlers, of the
town. He was born June 9, 1797, in Middletown, Vermont, graduated
in Castletown College in 1818, removed to Royalton in 1820, and to
Centerville in 1825, and there spent forty-five years of his professional
life. Dr. Miner's wife was the first to be carried into the church. His
little daughter Mary died the year before, and was the first to be buried
in the cemetery. This beautiful piece of ground lay in the middle of
Dr. Miner's farm, and was intended first as a private yard for his own
family, but was afterwards donated by him to the town. Dr. Miner
also established the Sabbath school, and after his death his second wife
has carried on the good work with a zeal worthy of the cause. In
1876 she organized her mission band of young ladies and children who
send about $30 annually to India; the proceeds, principally, of needle
work. Mrs. Miner is a graduate of Troy, New York, and is a highly
educated lady, and was at one time the teacher of French in Dr.
Williams' Academy of this place. " HISTORY OF FAIRFIELD AND PERRY COUNTIES, OHIO, THEIR PAST AND PRESENT COMPILED BY A. A. GRAHAM, W. H. BEERS & CO. 1883, p 221.

Florella Jane Clark died leaving minor ch, Blanche Malvina and Myra Florella and Mary Elvira Clark, "Partition Record Abstracts, V2, 1851-1900 Fairfield County, Ohio", Fairfield County Chapter OGS, 1988, p 35.

OBIT: Doctor E. L. Miner was born June 9, 1797, in Middletown, Vermont. From boyhood he manifested great fondness for books and an irrepressible desire to become a physician-- and at a very early age he entered Castleton Medical College as a student; with constant devotion to study he appeared before the learned Professors at the age of 18 years, and underwent a vigorous examination in the various branches of the medical science to the satisfaction of the Faculty, who gave him a unanimous vote, and their certificate to his qualifications to practice medicine, as well as their approval of his moral character. A diploma could not then be conferred on account of his minority. But his Alma Mater did not forget the worth of the young student; but in 1825 they forwarded to him the Deploma of their College as Doctor of Medicine. In 1820, he emigrated to Ohio, and located in Royalton. In 1825 he removed to Lithopolis in Fairfield county, where for more than 30 years he pursued the practice of medicine with eminent success. So deeply he felt his duties that he never refused aid to the poor and penniless, and often clothed and fed them; many of whom now weep over the grave of their benefactor. So genial was his nature -- so quiet and unobtrusive his intercourse with society that all who knew him well loved and respected him. He died April 8, 1869, without leaving one enemy on earth. His life was that of the just and good. He rests in peace. Original data: Converse, Charles Allen,. James died on Sept. 18, 2003 and 79, and had surviving children including step children. Step children listed separately, so I'm assuming at this time that REED was Geraldine's maiden name.

The obituary of Bertha Reed Addison, who died Jan. 11, 2007, at 54, mentions a surviving sister, Geraldine (Ted) Foor. She's also listed as being the sister of "the late Calvin Moore, Sr. and James Reed, Jr.", and mentioned as a setp-sister for Try and Michael Jackson and Louis Williams, Jr.

[28594] "MOB VIOLENCE FEARED - WIFE MURDERED AND THE MOB CLAMORS FOR HUSBAND - Columbus Manufacturer Who Sued His Own Wife Now Accused of Killing the Woman. Lancaster, O. - Mrs. Charles Wheeler was murdered at Lithopolis last night. Her body was discovered this morning and her husband placed under arrest. A heavy guard surrounds the lock-up at that place, where great excitement prevails and lynching is treatened. Deputy Sheriff Callahan and Coroner Cly left here fore the scene. Wheeler is a well known Columbus pump manufacturer and recently sued his wife for an alleged dept of $700 which is the supposed reason for the crime. The prisoner will be brought here and placed in jail. [Fort Wayne News, Fort Wayne, IN, Dec. 17, 1902]

AFRAID That She Would Be Killed - People Tell of Woman's Fright. Chas. Wheeler said to have Brandished Knife. The Coroner's Examination Conducted at Lancaster -- Verdict to be Rendered Today - Dead Woman's Relatives. Lancaster, O., Dec. 20 - The inquest into the death of the wife of Charles Wheeler of Lithopolis, was held here Friday. The first witness was S. W. Blackwood, from whom Wheeler bought his farm. He lives in Columbus. He testified that on Dec. [14?], Wheeler again came into his store in Columbus and said: "I've got them." and showed the witness two certificates of deposit for $300 each, two of $200 each and two of $1,000, all on banks in Columbus. He also displayed a bank book in Ella Wheeler's name on the Columbus Savings Bank showing a balance of about $200. Wheeler also displayed a bunch of keys and said: "I found the keys and unlocked the trunks and drawer and found these papers and bank book." Witness said he told Wheeler to "take the papers back and put them where he got them". At that time Wheeler made no inquiry about his wife.

He said that three weeks ago, on the farm where Wheeler came to him and said, "My God, Mr. Blackwood, my wife thinks I am going to kill her. I was cutting up a hog this morning that I killed last night and she abused me so that I told her I would cut my throat." Blackwood testified that an hour later she came to him and and told him that "Charlie tried to kill her with a butcher knife that morning." Blackwood related that she said to him that her husband had broken in a door and gone after her with a knife in his hand. She said that she wanted to stay that night in the tenant house in Blackwood's farm, as she was afraid her husband would kill her. Blackwood would not allow it.

Mrs. Glick testified that Mrs. Wheeler said she was going to leave her husband, as she could not get along with him.

Henry May, a neighbor, said that Mrs. Wheeler asked to stay at their house the night following the day of the butchering in the Wheeler home as she was afraid of her husband. He said Mrs. Wheeler was in the habit of going away for a week or 10 days at a time. He had heard Wheeler say that at times when his wife was away he would sit up all night in the kitchen.

Art Heller of Lithopolis said that Wheeler had talked to him in Wilson's saloon on Tuesday night, December 2. Wheeler said hs wife was gone and he did not know where to look for her. He supposed that she was up in that "hell hole" where he found her the last time.

Attorney L. C. Jones of Columbus filed an application for Mrs. Sophia Waters, a sister of the dead woman, to be appointed administratrix. The estate is valued at $2,300, $1,000 of which is in realty. There are other sisters and three brothers of the deceased who will also probably have something to say about the appointment of the administrator. They are Mrs. Mayme Brown of Peoria, IL., Louis Frey of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; Gus Frey of Pittsburg; Conrad Frey of Zanesville. The coroner will render a verdict today. [The Newark Advocate, Newark, Ohio, Dec. 20, 1902]

MURDER TRIAL at Lancaster Begun - An Army of Witnesses to be Examined in Wheeler Case. Lancaster, O., April 28 -- the trial of Charles F. Wheeler, formerly of Columbus, under inductment for murdering his wife, Ella Wheeler, on a farm near Lithopolis, Fairfield county, is now under way. A jury is now being secured. The body of Mrs. Wheeler was discovered in a well on the farm, 15 days after her disappearance last November. Her husband was immediately arrested for the crime, and indicted by the grand jury in January. Hon. M. A. Daughtery, George E. Martin of this city, and Attorneys Lawe and Lawe of Canal Winchester appeared for Wheeler, and Prosecuting Attorney Frank Acton is assisted by Attorneys Thomas H. Dolson and W. T. McCleuaghan of this city. The attornesy for the defense are taking advantage of every technicality to delay proceedings and the trial will probably be long drawn out. There is an army of witnesses to be examined. [Newark Advocate, Newark, Ohio, April 28, 1903]

1903 - Wheeler Found Guilty. Lancaster, O. May 5. After being out three and one half hours the jury in the Wheeler case returned a verdict of guilty of murder in the first degree. Mercy was asked which means life imprisonment. Wheeler received the verdict without flinching. A new trial will probably be asked. Charles Wheeler was arrest several months ago charged with murdering his wife whose body was found in a well. [Sandusky Evening Star, Sandusky, Ohio, May 5, 1903]
