N. W. COFFMAN, farmer, Sec. 5; P.O. Camanche; was born in Fairfield Co., Ohio, in 1808; came to Iowa in 1855, settling in Clinton. Co., where he has since resided; he improved the farm on which he resides, consisting of eighty acres. He married, near Lancaster, Fairfield Co., Ohio, in 1831, Miss Rhoda Williamson, a native of that county, born in 1811; they have nine children-
Elizabeth (now Mrs. W. Tallman), Melvina (now Mrs. Rainier), William H., George, Belle, Carrie (now Mrs. Dinsmore) Frank, Ella (now Mrs. Edlin) and Blanche. They are members of the M. E. Church. Two of his sons were in the army; George enlisted in the 8th I. V. I., Co. A, and served through the war; was taken prisoner at Pittsburg Landing, while under Gen. Prentiss; Frank went out with the hundred-day men. Mr. C. is a blacksmith. He was formerly a Whig, and, at the organization of the Republican party, joined its ranks, and has since acted with it. His parents, Martin and Sarah (Whitehurst) Coffman were natives of Pennsylvania and Virginia; his paternal grandparents removed to Virginia while his father was quite young; there he was married and removed to Ohio, which at that time was a new country, and resided there till their deaths. buried 1st add, lot 25, gr 1, next-of-kin Lewis OYLER, husband.
OBIT: Angeline Foor was b in Fairfield County, Ohio, Nov. 8, 1888 [sic] and died at her home at Lithopolis, March 15, 1901, aged 52y 4m 12d. She was married to Lewis Oyler June 1, 1856. Twelve children were born to this union, three of whom preceded her to the spirit world. She leaves a husband and nine children, 33 grandchildren, two brothers and one sister, with a sympathizing community. She was converted in childhood, united with the M.E. Church in 1854, was a most estimable christian, a Methodist of old school, diligent in service, feverr in spirit, mighty in prayer, joyful in experience and holy in life. She was a noble wife and kind mother, rearing her children in the "fear and admonition of the Lord". Her children loved and respected her, ever seeking her counsel and advice. She fully consecrated her life to God and her family. She lived to see all of her children led to Christ. Early in her last illness she said, "My work is done, I am ready and anxious to go; You can all get along without me now". Her death was a wonderful triumph of faith. Friday morning she realized the end was near. AFter singing a hymn she told them to all fall in line and bid her goodbye. Her pastor, assisted by Rev. Bullock, administered the sacrament of the Lord's supper and led the family in prayer where husband and children recorded their solemn vow to meet her in the heavenly home. After this most sacred service all burden and pain seemed to leave her, and she composed herself for the final summons.
The following beautiful tribute is given by her associates in the Sunday school: Sister Oyler was one among the most devoted workers in the Sunday school. Taking a deep interest in the children and young people; always ready with a kind word and loving deed to lead them in the walks of christian life. For some time she was the faithful teacher of the primary department and was much loved by the children. A few years ago she went into the homes of parents unable to clothe their children properly for Sunday school, clothed them, and brought them into the school and formed a class. This morning as we gathered in our sabbath home and saw the vacant seat in the habliments of mourning, a general sadness pervaded our school and we said, 'A princess in Israel has fallen'.
The funeral services were conducted from the M. E. Church of Lithopolis by her Pastor, Rev. Fuller, assisted by Rev. Creighton, at two o'clock last Sunday afternoon. Burial in Lithopolis Cemetery.
1907 - the next-of-kin of Angeline Oyler of Bloom Township are; sons Alva and William of Lithopolis and Charles of Columbus; daughters Della and Alla Smith of Lithopolis, Minnie Storts and Gertie Foor of Canal Winchester and Carrie Burton of Alexander. Dec. 12, 1907 issue. "Genealogical Abstracts from The Lancaster (Ohio) Gazette, V7, 1906-1910", Fairfield County Gen., Society, 2006, p 90. NOTE that only 8 children are listed here and it mentions 9 in the obit.

Cause of Death: "Asbestosis", from Debbie Siders, daughter, via email May 1999.
""I've got five kids who have worked out there, and three of them have lung problems,'' said Betty Wyatt, whose husband, Charles "Dick'' Foor, died in 1996 from severe obstructive pulmonary disease. "The doctors always blamed it on the cigarettes, but we didn't know they had bad vermiculite out there.''
Foor worked at Scotts from 1967 to 1991. In 1984, a company doctor who examined Foor identified spots on a chest X-ray as fat deposits, according to medical records kept by his wife. After he died, an autopsy revealed the deposits actually were asbestos plaques that had scarred his lungs.
Wyatt thought the dust on her husband's clothes was an irritant, not something that could kill him.
"Even though they showered at work, his clothes were out there and they were always dusty,'' she said. "You would get into the car, turn on the heater, and the dust would come out of the vents.'' COLUMBUS DISPATCH, Columbus, Ohio, November 5, 2001, page 1A, article entitled "ASBESTOSIS CAME AS SHOCK TO ONE-TIME SCOTTS WORKER".

"Charles Foor of Milford Center worked at Scotts from 1967 to 1991. He died five years later at 58 of severe obstructive pulmonary disease. 'It was hard to get a doctor in that town (Marysville) to say the asbestos was the problem,' said Foor's widow, Betty Wyatt. 'But the autopsy showed there was asbestos all over his lungs.'" From an article titled "Deadly Little Secret; Unsuspecting Scotts employees worked with lethal asbestos for years; many still coping", COLUMBUS DISPATCH, Columbus, Ohio, Sunday, June 17, 2001 p 1a. Article had short bios on many of the employees who once worked there and died from some form of cancer from asbestos.
