LOCATION: 1918 - Wednesday evening, April 24, the Misses Susan and Alice
Baugher of 125 South Grant AVenue, Columbus, opened their home from 6 to 10
to about fifty Columbus residents who were their fellow townsmen twenty years
ago in Lithopolis. The misses Baugher are granddaughters of Frederick
Baugher who founded the village in 1814 and the party had therefore,
something of a special interest to the guests. More than anything else,
however, it was a reunion of men and women who were once closely associated
in the village, but who since leaving it had seen each other and the
hostesses only very infrequently or not at all. As a consequence, the
renewing of former neighborly associations, the retelling of the old local
stories and the recreating of the old town atmostphere made up a most
important part of the evening's pleasure. Immediately after an excellent
lunch of ice cream, cake, sandwiches and coffee had been served, Mr. Edwin S.
Stotz called the group to order. In a pleasing and feeling manner Mr. Stotz
then presented the Misses Baugher with several tokens of the esteem in which
they are held by their former neighbors, this being the only part of the
program that had been kept secret from the hostesses. [Lancaster Daily Eagle,
Lancaster, Ohio, May 4, 1918]

NOT SURE if this is a child of Peter POWELL. PETER, in his seventies, is living in close proximity to known son George, and also close by (the next family to George) is this Daniel and his family.

Daniel Powell was born Feb. 7, 1811. He is a native of PA, and son of Peter and Mary (Alspaugh) Powell, natives of PA, and of German descent. Of 12 children of the family, seven still survive--Elizabeth, John, Jacob, Daniel, Mary (or Polly), Rebecca and George. The mother died in 1855, the father in 1861. Our subject was married June 14, 1832, to Eliza Beaty, of Fairfield County, Ohio. She was born in Northumberland County, Penn., December 14, 1809, to Alexander and Elizabeth (Toner) Beaty, who were the parents of nine children, only three of whom survive, namely, Sarah, Margaret and Bateman. The father died in 1827, the mother several years later. To Daniel and Eliza J. Powell were born five sons and three daughters-Bateman B., Mary A., Peter L., Sarah P., Alexandra B., Daniel N., Elizabeth A. and John W. The mother died October 24, 1878, at the age of sixty-eight years. Mr. Powell removed with his family from Fairfield County to this county, in August, 1864, and purchased land in Crawford Township, where he still lives with his son, John W. Powell, who now operates the farm, and who was married, February 18, 1875, to Mary C. Shuman, who was born in this township August 25, 1845. Her parents are Fred and Mary (Stahl) Shuman, who now reside in this township. This marriage was blessed by the birth of five sons-infant son, October, 1877; Clarence M., July 16, 1878; Freddie S.. September 16, 1880; Daniel L., August 27. 1882, all living but the infant son. John W. owns eighty-five acres, and
his father 110, all valued at $80 to $90 per acre. Daniel also owns forty acres in Hancock County, at about the same valuation. He was a resident of Fairfield County fifty years. He and his wife were members of the United Brethren Church at Carey. John W. is a member of Carey Lodge, No. 407, IOOF, and of the Evangelical Church of the same place. His wife is a member of the Lutheran Church. Both he and his father are Democrats in politics. "HISTORY OF WYANDOT COUNTY, OHIO", Chicago, Leggett, Conaway & Co., 1884, p 794.

"Mr. Whitehurst chose Miss Mary Powell... daughter of Daniel Powell, of Bloom township. Her mother bore the maiden name of Eliza Beaty and both were natives of Pennsylvania, but in the early part of the centry they took up their abode in Fairfield county. Mr. Powell became an extensive and prosperous farmer of Bloom township. He died in his seventy-seventh year, while his wife passed away at the age of 71 years. He had severed his country in the Civl War and was ever a loyal and patriotic citizen. Unto Mr. and Mrs. Powell were born eight children, of whom seven are yet living: Bateman, Mary, Alexander, Sarah, Daniel, Elizabeth and John. Peter, who was the third in order of birth, is now deceased". "A Biographical Record of Fairfield and Perry Counties, Ohio, S. J. Clarke Pub., Co., 1902, pp 303-304.
