This child was born in Bloomtownship [sic] Fairfield County... Ohio; was baptized by the Rev. John Wagenholtz and received the name of John. Witness present at the act of baptism were Jonathan Glick and his wife Catharina.' Jonathan Glick was a brother of Philip Glick.

John was quite young when his parents took him and his three brothers, Andrew, James Monroe and Philip to Miami County, Indiana, and still quite young when his father brought him and his brothers back to Ohio after his mother's death in 1844. In the census of 1850 John is listed in the household of his grandfather, Philip Glick, in Fairfield County, Amanda Township. He was then 12 years old. As he grew older he felt drawn to Miami County, where he had stayed so briefly with his father and mother. He went to the home of his uncle and aunt, Michael and Leah (Glick) Bradley in Butler Township, where he stayed 'three or four years' (statement ot me of his eldest son Charles E. Bradley). John then returned to Ohio, where he married Margaret Sharp of Pickaway County 13 Feb. 1862. Although the license was obtained in Pickaway County, the couple were married by the Rev. John E. Wood at Lithopolis, Fairfield County. Margaret, born 05 Nov 1842, was the daughter of William and Mary (Teegardin) Sharp.

The first child of the couple, Charles, was born in Lithopolis 18 February 1863. Their second child, Oscar, was born in Waupecong, Miami Co., Indiana, Clay Township, 02 July 1865. So the date of the settlement of John and Margaret in Waupecong would have had to be between February 1863 and July 1865. John engaged in the lumber business. For a certain length of time he was a partner in a gernal store with his youngest brother Philip. Probably about 1871 or 1872 he moved his family from Waupecong to the village of Rich Valley in Wabash County where he continued in the lumber business. In 1880 John moved his family into the town of Wabash, on Falls Avenue, but he continued to maintain his lumber business and sawmill in Rich Valley. John and Margaret (Sharp) Bradley had the following children, Charles Earl, Oscar Eugene, William Henry, Allen Marshall, Chester Cortice, Bertha Alice, Clarence Aaron, John Vern and Maggie Ozilla Bradley. Charles was born in Lithopolis, Ohio. Oscar, William, Allen and Chester were born in Waupecong. The rest of the children were born in Rich Valley, except Clarence, who said that he was born in Howard County. William Henry died in early childhood. Maggie Ozilla, born 1880, died that same year.

The census of 1880 shows that John Bradley's half-sister, Ozilla Bradley, age 20, was living with the family. Shortly after the family moved to Wabash, Margaret Bradley died (14 Jun 1880). With the help of Ozilla and another half-sister, Alice Bradley, John was able to maintain a home for his motherless children. On 14 November 1882, while he was loading lumber onto a flat car at Rich Valley, John was dragged under the wheels of a passing freight train by a broken telegraph wire, horribly mangled and almost immediately killed (Wabash PLAIN DEALER, 17 Nov 1882). The John Bradley household was shattered beyond repair. Charles, age 19, who had worked for a druggist in Rich Valley, was working in a drugstore in Wabash. Oscar, aged 17, who had worked i nhis father's lumber business, obtained a position with a lumber firm in Peru, Indiana. Allen, age 13, went to live at the home of Dr. Ebenezer F. Donaldson, a Wabash physician, to take care of the horses, drive the doctor on his rounds and to make himself generally useful around the doctor's house and office. The other children, whose ages ranged from 6 -12 years, were taken in by relatives", "The Descendants of John Bradley (1783-1860) and Joanna (Fitzgerald) Bradley (1786-1864)", Dr. Chester Bradley, Hampton, VA, 1975, p 196.

INDEX

[11988] From Paula Hostler:

Leonard son of Linonhart and Cath. wrote his will 23 July 1776; indicates in
the will that because of his tender love for his sisters he felt that he
should write his will so that they inherit what little he has. He left bro
John only 5 shillings, so there must have been some animosity between those
two. The will was presented 19 Feb 1778, inventory taken and presented 2 Jul 1778 for 153-10-6. It doesn't sound like he had only a small estate.
Evidently he did not marry, no one but sisters, one brother and
Gossip (supposedly NEPHEW) Leonhard Schnyder inherited. Four sisters named:
Chalanra(Chatarina???) Schnyder, Susanna Wehr, Margareth Scholl and Mary
Fuhr, they are to equally divide his estate. Hope this helps. Paula

The executor of the above will was "Geo. Bloss". Location: Northampton Co., PA.

From Will Abstracts of Northampton co., PA, 1752-1802, John Eyerman, 1897.
#207 - Leonard FUHR, Heidelberg, July 23, 1776 to ? Names mentioned:
brother John FUHR
sister Chatarina Schnyder
sister Susan Webr [Susan Wehr?]
sister Margareth Scholl
sister Mary Fuhr
"my gossip Leonard Schnyder"
ex. Geo. Bloss.

POBurial: Although obit doesn't specify burial location, the funeral home shows that it was Lithopolis Cemetery but doesn't list a date.

OBIT: DIXON Margaret Elizabeth Pickering-Dixon, age 82, of Lancaster, died Wednesday, December 6, 2006 at Fairfield Medical Center. She was born January 5, 1924, near Sunbury, Ohio, to parents Claude and Ethel Pickering. In 1945 she married U.S. Air Force pilot Joseph Dixon. After successfully raising a family, she fulfilled her dream of earning a university degree in art education. She taught at area public schools, exhibited prize-winning works in many art exhibitions, and became well-known as a liturgical artist and designer. Her works in metal, painting, and fiber are represented in numerous churches, including Epiphany Lutheran in Dayton and Rockefeller Chapel in Chicago. Though Margaret's talent has been well recognized, her greatest legacy is the love and loyalty of her family. She is survived by her husband of 61 years; a brother, Claude Pickering Jr.; a sister, Doris Jean Ulery; children, Laurinda Sue Dixon, Janice Ann Fry, Deborah Kae Hildebrand and Kevin Joseph Dixon; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. The family will welcome friends at the museum space of the Wagnalls Memorial in Lithopolis at 3 p.m. Saturday, December 9, 2006, for a service of remembrance and thanksgiving for Margaret's life. Pastor Walter Huffman officiating. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Oprah's Angel Network, at oprah.com in Margaret's memory. Online condolences available at www.spencefuneralhome.com. [Columbus Dispatch, Columbus, Ohio, Dec. 8, 2006]
