Ruby A. Martin-Pruitt was born November 7, 1909 at Pine Bluff, Arkansas to Russell and Cora (Moore) Pope. In 1918, Ruby and her family moved to Oklahoma City. Ruby's mother and stepfather, Tom Spears started a café near the State Capital. The Café was locally well known for southern style food such as tall biscuits, beans, cornbread and homemade pies. The whole family worked in the café. While working there, Ruby met the love of her life, Johnnie Martin. They became sweethearts and married on November 9, 1927 in Oklahoma City and moved to Houston, Texas. John Martin was an up and coming baseball player. In Oklahoma City he grew up playing sand lot baseball. He then played baseball at Guthrie and Ft. Smith, Arkansas. While at Ft. Smith, Johnnie was given the nickname "Pepper." Soon after playing with the Houston ball club, Johnnie was sent to the St. Louis Cardinals. He became a nationally known baseball player for the St. Louis Cardinals for 12 years. He was at Rochester, NY, Sacramento, San Diego, Greenville, SC, Miami, Miami Beach, Fort Lauderdale, FL, Chicago Cubs, Macon, GA and Des Moines, Iowa. The last few years of his life he coached the Tulsa Oilers club and assisted with the broadcasting of the baseball games. In 1946, Ruby and Johnnie moved from Oklahoma City to their beloved ranch near Quinton, Oklahoma. Throughout their entire married life together they were constant companions as they raised their family and pursued Johnnies baseball career. Johnnie "Pepper" Martin died in 1965. Ruby had many interests. She and Johnnie were active in the First Baptist Church at Quinton and Blocker. They helped start Blocker Baptist Church. [13288] NAME/DOB/POB: From California birth records as seen online at RootsWeb.

NOTE: In September 2006 I get an email that came in via the forms on my website. It was this person who says he was adopted, and he listed his date of birth, wives, and children. When replying to him, the email he used on the form was not operable. I tried twice to send to that email but it bounced back both times. I'm not even certain the person saw his name here in the online database.

I "googled" the email id he listed but it came up with no results. I tried a few different variations and nothing looked obvious. I googled his adopted name and found nothing significant. At zabasearch.com I found several Scotts with his adopted last name in Colorado, which is where he stated his two children were born.

NOTE: See "Scott Allen PAULUS".

"He [speaking of Erastmus's father] was patriotic in the truest sense of the term and although at the time of the Civil war he was too advanced in years to go to the front he sent two of his sons, Erasmus and Zeno, and this meant much arduous labor to be performed by the father on the home farm. The son Erasmus became a member of the Ninetieth Indiana Regiment and was killed in the battle of Perryville when he had been in the service but eight days. When the father received the news of his death his reply was, "Send the body home and would to God I had another son for the same cause!" HISTORY OF COLUMBUS AND FRANKLIN COUNTY, OHIO, Vol. 1, William Alexander Taylor, Chicago: S.J. Clarke Publishing Co., 1909, p 765.

Resided Princeton, Indiana. Enlisted as a Sergeant on 4 Sep 1862 into Company A, 80th Infantry Regiment, Indiana. Killed on 8 Oct 1862 in Perryville, KY. Report of the Adjutant General of the State of Indiana. (INRoster) Published in 1865-66 by Holloway.

Congregations of the Glick/Salem (Union)/Brick Church, 1808-1915, Bloom

For baptismal date it says 07 Jul 1835 (not 1839) though it's with other entries for 1839 -- so am assuming it should be 1839 which would leave the birthdate accurate. However, since there is already a child born in the year 1839, maybe they meant the birthdate should be 1835?

NOTE: Same book, p 26, lists Rufus GLICK b 21 Jun 1835, bap 05 Jul 1835, child of Benjamin and Maria.

NOTE: There are currently 5 gedcoms on ancestry.com by various posters that have exactly the same data, obviously copied from one to another. All show that Henry Kramer married Sarah Bumbarger 10 Jan 1857 in Fairfield Co., Ohio. Sarah was b 29 Jul 1837 in Fairfield Co., Ohio and died 03 Apr 1872 in Logansport, IN. No parents shown for Sarah. Children showed for marriage but just approximate dates and no locations. No sources listed. There is one, however, that shows this same Henry married Sarah Heller, and that is also my assumption. I can't find any Bumbarger or Kramer/Cramer in 1857 marriages that would appear to be this couple. The only thing I could think of is that perhaps Sarah had divorced and remarried someone by the name of Bumbarger, but that doesn't appear to be the case.

DOD: Image of tombstone is hard to read. Looks like Sarah, wife of H. Kramer, died ..... 1872, aged ..... Photo posted to Cass Co. IN GenWeb website.

INDEX

[15814] "Richard Holmes, a retired farmer and stock dealer, living at Carroll, has now passed the psalmist's span of three score years and ten, as he was born on a farm in Bloom township in 1829. His paternal grandfather was James Holmes, a native of PA., and one of the heroes of the Revolutionary war... In the usual manner of farm lads of the period, Richard Holmes spent the days of his boyhood and youth. On the 9th of June, 1874, he was united in marriage to Catherine Miller, a daughter of Peter Miller, a resident farmer of Liberty township, Fairfield Co., Ohio. Mr. Holmes had acquired his education in an old-time log schoolhouse where the methods of instruction were almost as primitive as the building occupied. He remained with his father until the latter's death in 1847, at which time he inhereited a part of the old homestead. Two years later he sold his share to Samuel Kisler and the same year he purchased a farm from his brother Thomas. In 1855 he sold the tract of land to his brother George and his brother-in-law, Deacon Whiticar, who divided the property. For many years Mr. Holmes was a buyer and shipper of stock, sending his stock to Pittsburg, Philadelphia, Baltimore and New York. His life, although quietly passed, has been a busy and useful one, and through legitimate channels of trade he has won a comfortable competence, which now enables him to live retired. "A Biographical Record of Fairfield and Perry Counties, Ohio, S. J. Clarke Pub., Co., 1902, p 360.

would toddle about the place. Luther, the eldest son, a painter as his
