It appears this family went to Linn Co., IA, between the birth of Nelson in 1853, and Orlando in 1857. Reuben and Effie had more ch in IA than I have listed here.

NOTE: Several of the family show up in McLean Co., IL in 1870 census. When checking the marriages at the Illinois State Archives, there are three male Alspaugh's who were married in McLean county Oct. 23, 1862. One was Wilson, another Sampson (who may be Lampson), and another was Reuben Alspaugh who married in 1862 Christiana Miller. Did Reuben Alspach come to McLean Co., IL? Is this the same Reuben? Lampson married a daughter of Christiana Miller's, making Christiana both his step mother and mother-in-law.

[3335] NAME/POB/DOB/DOM: From Louann Foor, email, 9/1998, 26834 Tower Dr., Sand
Springs, OK 74063. "Wade Sr. was a police officer --one of the first OK Hwy
Patrol officers.. Was captain of the Vice Squad during the Depression, had a
shoot-out with Machine Gun Kelley which resulted in the death of his partner.
Had a heart attack and drowned while fishing with friends."

NOTE: The first marriage of Wade to Vanessa SILER is not confirmed. My suspicion is that they are the same individual, as there are very few FOORs in the area during 1920, and it's a big coincidence to have a Wade Foor born in Kentucky and being in Tulsa Co., OK to not be the same Wade. I cannot find ANY Wade Foor in the 1920 census yet. The fact that Vanessa lists herself as a 21y widow in 1920 with a child doesn't deter me yet from believing the two Wades may be the same individual. It was often preferable for a woman to list herself as widowed or single rather than divorced during that time period.

1875 - on page for Bloom township and Lithopolis village is J. N. Slife, section 26, date of settlement 1812, nativity Maryland, post office Greencastle, "died in 1870", "Combination Atlas Map of Fairfield County, Ohio", L. M. Everts, Philadelphia, 1875, p 103.

DOD/POBurial: via email with reilly66@gateway.net, Jan. 30, 2000. Died at 70y 11d.

DOB: Figured from age at death.

NOTE: It has been questioned as to whether the John N. Slife buried in Iowa is this John N. Slife. At first I was skeptical, too, but since researching a bit more I found this Slife:

CENSUS: 1850 Rome Twp., Jones Co., IA, visitation 777
SLIFE, Daniel, 46y carpetner b MD
", Eve, 45y b PA,
", Christina, 21y b OH

Daniel would be born about 1804 and both he and John show their place of birth as MD. This very well could be his brother, especially since his children were born in Ohio.

In 1860, Daniel and wife and are found in Boulder:

CENSUS: 1860 Boulder Twp., Linn Co., IA., p 143
SLIFe, Daniel, 56y farmer b MD
", Eve, 55y b PA
", David, 17y b OH
next residence
SLIFE, James, 23y b OH, married in census year
", Catherine, 19y b OH

Slife's buried in Boulder cemetery according to tombstone photos shown at iowagravestones.org, are:
SLIFE, James, August 3, 1837 - May 10, 1917, 24th IA Vol. Inf.
SLIFE, John N., died Sept. 25, 1870, aged [???] and 11 ds.
SLIFE, Sarah Isham Aug. 4, 1875-June 9, 1972 and Daniel Arthur, Apr. 15, 1873-Jan. 15, 1917
SLIFE, Sarah, Nov. 14, 1850 - Feb. 27, 1826]

It MAY be possible that John N. Slife went to Iowa (with or without his family, though I would suspect without) to check out the land and conditions of his Slife relatives and ended up dying there. Or possibly he divorced and went out there to live. There IS a John Slife in 1870 Iowa...

CENSUS: 1870 Wanbeek, Linn Co., IA, p 4
SLIFE, John, 65y carpenter b MD
", Sarah, [18??] b MD
These SLIFEs are residing with Joseph SMITH and family of OH.

The Daniel Slife mentioned above had many children born in Fairfield Co., Ohio, where John N. Slife was from. This info is posted many times in lineages on ancestry.com. Most show Daniel as the son of Ulrich SLIFE b abt 1780 MD and died aft 1825, married an unknown Christina. Daniel married Eve MILLOW.

So, my theory is that yes, the John N. Slife buried in Boulder is the one listed here, and that he was related to the Daniel Slife who was also of Fairfield Co., Ohio at one time and went to Iowa as well.
