[15634] History of Hancock County, Ohio, Warner Beers & Co., 1886

Daniel Alspach, farmer, P.O. Vanlue, born in Fairfield County, Ohio, December 10, 1811, is a son of Adam and Barbara (Wyant) Alspach, natives of Schuylkill County, Penn. Adam Alspach, born in 1788, was a soldier in the war of 1812; he came to Ohio at the age of twenty years, and lived in Fairfield County with his parents and grandfather, Henry Alspach, who were pioneers in Ohio. Adam Alspach married in Fairfield County, and came to Hancock County in 1830, entering 160 acres of land in Section 19, Amanda Township, where he resided until his death. He was the father of seven children when he came to Amanda Township: Daniel, Aaron, David, Richard, Elizabeth (now deceased), Lavina, wife of Samuel Treece, and Sarah A., who was born in this county and is now the wife of Henry Beck. Daniel Alspach married, September 15, 1836, Catharine, daughter of Cornelius Vanlue, whose brother, William, laid out the village of Vanlue, this county. (He afterward moved to Nebraska, and there died.) Cornelius Vanlue settled in Fairfield County, Ohio in 1823, and moved to Hancock County in 1831. Mr. and Mrs. Alspach are the parents of ten children: Barbara A. (wife of N. Buckingham), William, Savilla (deceased), James, Elmyra, Sarah E. (wife of L. Clark), Lavina (deceased), J.W. (deceased), Salathiel, and Alice (wife of F. Copeland). Our subject and wife endured many hardships during their early pioneer days. They lived for a time in Vanlue, but, preferring farm life, they again moved into the country.", "HISTORY OF HANCOCK COUNTY, OHIO", Warner, Beers & CO., 1886, p

"Henry Alspach, founder of the American branch of the family, came over
during the latter part of the 18th century and secured a location in
Pennsylvania. His son, Adam Alspach, was born in that state in 1788, removed
to Ohio in 1800, remained some years in Fairfield county and in 1830 came to
Hancock county, where he died in 1856. He served as a soldier during the war
of 1812. Among his children was Daniel Alspach, whose birth occurred in
Fairfield County, Ohio, in 1811, and who was consequently nineteen years old
when he came with his parents to Hancock county... When he grew up Daniel
became a farmer and devoted his entire time and energy to his occupation
until the termination of his life in 1891." [A Centennial biographical
history of Hancock County, Ohio, By Lewis Publishing Company, 1903, p 199]

"Daniel, one of their sons [William and Barbara Wyant Alspach] was born in Fairfield county, Ohio, in 1811, and came with his father to Hancock county in 1830. He followed the life of a farmer and made marked success in this calling. In 1836 he married Catherine A. Vanlue, who was born in Northumberland county, PA., in 1818, and came to this county in 1833. Daniel Alspach died April 1, 1891, but his wife is still living, enjoying the love and esteem of all around her. They became the parents of ten children, and six are yet living." until the termination of his life in 1891." PARRY II Carroll D. Parry II, 87, of Lancaster, Ohio, passed away September 18, 2007. Carroll was born to Mabel Brooks and Carroll Amos Parry. Carroll grew up in Stoney Point, NY. Carroll served in the U.S. Army during WWII. He attended Case Western University where he studied business. Carroll was a pioneer in the computer industry working for IBM, Boeing, North American Rockwell and Nationwide Insurance. His main labor of love was his family, a very loving, giving father who was always caring for his wife and children. A positive person who always saw the good in his fellow man. Carroll being a gentle and kind individual was most happy surrounded by his family and did not long for material possessions. His happiness was found in the simplicity of his life. Carroll's commitment, tenacity and goodness are best reflected in II Timothy 4: 7 & 8. "I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge will award to me on that day-and not only to me but also to all who have longed for his appearing." Carroll's life will remain an inspiration to all who knew the great man he was. He was preceded in death by his 2 sons Carroll D. Parry III and John D. Parry, and his wife of 67 years, Irma Parry. Carroll is survived by daughters, Diana M. Parry, Lancaster, Ohio, Elizabeth P. Burns of Tampa, FL; son, Thomas A. Parry of Little River, South Carolina; step-sister, Katharine Nugent of Bellevue, Washington. Special thanks to all the wonderful people who cared for Carroll at Carrollwood Care Center, University Community Hospital, Tampa, FL and Crestview in Lancaster, Ohio. A service was held at the Lithopolis Cemetery, but was he, or perhaps his cremains, ever buried there?

[Lancaster Daily Eagle, Lancaster, Ohio, Feb. 26, 1915]

"Henry C. Williamson is a retired farmer in blue during the Civil war. He is now living in a pleasant home in Lancaster, enjoying the fruit of former toil. He was born in Bloom township, this county, on the 13th of October, 1843. His father, George W. Williamson, was a native of Virginia, born in 1801, and the great-grandfather was George Williamson, Sr., whose birth occurred in Scotland and who was one of the old school Presbyterians. The grandparents of our subject were Theodore and Rhoda (Prater) Williamson...

"In taking up the personal history of Henry C. WIlliamson we present to our readers the life record of one who is widely known in Fairfield county, having spent his entire life within its borders. In the usual manner of farmer lads of the period he spent the days of his boyhood and youth, pursuing his education in the district schools in the winter months and working in field and meadow in the summer. He was thus engaged until 1862, when, at his country's call for troops, he enlisted as a member of the Union army, joining Co. D., 90th Ohio Infantry, under command of Colonel Ross. He served for two years and four months and participated in many important engagements which lead to final victory, including those at Stone River, Franklin, Chattanooga, Chickamauga, and Nashville, TN. At the last named he sustained a severe wound, a shot piercing his right arm and shattering the bone so that the member had to be aputated close to the shoulder. He was taken to the hospital, where he remained six weeks, at the end of which time he started for home, taking passage on a steamboat at Louisville, Kentucky, but while enroute was stricken with smallpox and transferred to the pest hospital at Covington, Kentucky. In September 1865, he received an honorable discharge and returned to his home, having made a great sacrifice for his country, yet happy in the consciousness that he had done his full duty in preserving the Union and aiding in the abolishment of slavery.

"For a short time after his return home Mr. Williamson continued his education in the home schools and then entered Wesleyan University at Delaware, Ohio, where he pursued his studies for a year, and later he took a course in the commercial college at Zanesville, Ohio. He then returned to the old homestead in Bloom township where he again engaged in general farming and stock raising and throughout the active years of his business career carried on agricultural pursuits.

"In December, 1871, Mr. Williamson was united in marriage to Miss Sarah A. Tipson, of Fairfield county. She was born in Licking county, Ohio, Nov. 27, 1844, and is the second daughter of John C. and Medina M. (Wheeler) Tipton.

"After his marriage Mr. Williamson began farming on his own account on a ninety-three-acre farm, in Bloom township, which was deeded to him by his father. When his financial resources increased he added to his possessions by the purchase of an additional tract of one hundred and thirteen acres and thus was the owner of more than two hundred acres. The care and labor which he bestowed upon his fields brought to him excellent harvests and through the sale of his products he acquired a good financial return for his labors. In 1895, he removed from the farm to Lancaster, where he has since resided. "A Biographical Record of Fairfield and Perry Counties, Ohio, S. J. Clarke Pub., Co., 1902, pp 333-336.
