Tire Marks Found on Right Arm - Investigation continued today into the aparent hit-skip death of Joseph Russell Alexander, 32, of 627 1/2 Goodwin Ave., Saturday about 9:20 p.m. Mr. Alexander's body was discovered lying along State Rt. 37 about 1/2 mile south of State Rt. 204. [much more story than I've typed here]
Alexander, a veteran of the second World War, is survived by his wife Peggy; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence William Alexander, four brothers, Karl, Grove City, Clarence, Mansfield, Paul and Danny Alexander of the parents' home; three sisters, Mrs. George McBee, Lancaster, Miss Mary Mgaretget Alexander, of the home, and Mrs. Edward Miller, Millersbort, and his grandfather H. Woltz, Lancaster.

She was preceded in death by her parents Ray Hummell and Cora (Kistler) Hummell, husband Richard Jester and son Jack David Jester. She is survived by her son, Robert Ray Jester of Atascocita, Tex.; sisters, Helen (Hummell) Sitterley of Lancaster and Virginia (Hummell) Lukingbeal of Barnestable, Mass. She graduated from Canal Winchester High School as salutatorian in 1931 and graduated from The Ohio State University in 1935 where she was the first woman elected to the ''All Agricultural Council'' was selected for the ''O.S.U. Scholaris'', ''Phi Upsilon Omicron'' and ''Omicron Nu'' scholastic honoraries and was presented the ''Vivian Award'' as the outstanding female in her Senior Class. She retired from the Bloom Carrol Schools after teaching High School, Elementary and Kindergarten from 1935-1976. Married Richard Jester, an Engineer and Veteran of WW I and WW II, January 1, 1943 in Princess Ann County, Va. Widowed in 1973 after her husband's prolonged paralysis due to an auto accident in 1963. "A large number of settlers came to Amanda in 1829 and 1830, all of whom brought families, Among those best remembered are David Morehart, Adam Alspach, Lemuel Farthing, David Egbert, Henry Treese, John G. Litsenberger, John Dipert, Darius Smith and Sanford Smith. David and Elizabeth (Fenstemaker) Morehart were natives of Pennsylvania, who first located in Fairfield County, Ohio. In 1829 he entered land in Section 5, Amanda Township, and the following year, with his wife and daughter, Mary (wife of J. M. Van Horn), settled on the land where his son, Jesse D. now lives. They had a family of fourteen children, and a large number of their descendants yet reside in the county. The parents died upon the old homestead in Section 5." Alma P. (Mullen) BLACK, 87, of Autumn House at Powder Mill, York,
formerly of Broad Top City, died at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 7, 2001,
at the home, following a brief illness. Born July 30, 1913, in Dudley,
she was a daughter of the late George W. and Annie (Stuller) Mullen. She
was the widow of Victor S. "Dick" Black. Surviving are a son and a
daughter-. Donald G. Black of Valdese, N.C.; a daughter, Ruth Anne Foore
of York; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. One sister,
Veda Hartman of Buffalo, N.Y., and several nieces and nephews survive.
Four brothers and three sisters preceded her in death. Mrs. Black was a
homemaker and a lover of birds and flowers and enjoyed cooking and
baking for her family and many friends. She was a member of the Church
of God in Hagerstown, Md., and for most of her life she lived in the
Broad Top area. She moved to York six months ago. Funeral services will
be held at 3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, at the Curtis A. Heath Funeral
Home, Broad Top, with Pastors Lucille Marquiss and Paul Marquiss
officiating. Interment will be made in the IOOF Cemetery, Broad Top.
