"Arlie M. Foor began his career at Wolf Point in 1917 as a young and hopeful lawyer, practiced with his old classmate of law school, Hugh N. Marron, until he left his office to enter the army, and since his military service has give his time and enthusiasm to his duties as executive secretary of the Wolf Point Commercial Club. He has been the real leader of that organization, some of whose achievements are briefly noted in the following paragraphs.
Mr. Foor was born at Lithopolis, Ohio, July 29, 1892. The name Foor is said to be a corruption of Foos, and the remote ancestors probably from Denmark. The grandfather of the Montana lawyer was George Foor, who settled in Ohio from Pennsylvania, and like most of the earlier generations of the family was a farmer. He spent many years in Central Ohio and is buried at Lithopolis. In his family were four sons and three daughters: Calvin, a farmer who died at Ashville, Ohio; Frank, who lives at Ashville; Ella, who died at Jefferson, Ohio, wife of Henry Weimer; Harvey, father of Arlie M.; Bertha, Mrs. Harvey M. Morehart, of Canal Winchester, Ohio; Ida, wife of Lute Heller of Columbus, Ohio; and Albert, of Lithopolis.
Harvey Foor was born in Pickaway Co., Ohio, and spent his brief career as a farmer. He died in February, 1901, at the age of thirty-five. He married Rhea A. Morehart, daughter of William and Mary (Fellers) Morehart. The Morehart family is also of Danish ancestry. Rhea Morehart was born in Greencastle, Ohio, where her parents located a few years before the beginning of the Civil war as emigrants from Pennsylvania. She had three brothers: Harvey, of Canal Winchester, Ohio; Jesse, a farmer in the same community; and William, a farmer at Pickerington, Ohio. Harvey Foor and wife were the parents of five c hildren: Arlie M.; Clarence, a farmer near the old Foor home; Raymond, also in the same vicinity; Forrest, a teacher in Fairfield County, Ohio; and Ercell, who recently completed her high school education at Canal Winchester. Forrest Foor served as a first class seaman in the navy during the World war, and with his brother Arlie shares in the credit for the military record of this generation of the family.
Arlie M. Foor spent his boyhood in the country near the village of Lithopolis, and did not relieve himself entirely of the responsibilities of work on the farm until he was nineteen. In 1909 he graduated from the Canal Winchester High School, for two years was principal of the schools at Greencastle, Ohio, and then pursued his legal studies in Valparaiso University in Indiana, graduating June, 1916. For about a year he practiced at Winchester, Indiana, being associated with an old time lawyer of the locality, Benjamin F. Marsh, under the name Marsh & Foor. He tried his firs law suit there.
In the meantime he has been keeping up an active correspondence with Hugh Marron, who immediately on leaving the law school of Valparaiso University had come into Montana. It was altogether due to the influence of Mr. Marron that Mr. Foor came out to the Treasure state, and they became associated in a general practice at Wolf Point, until their firm was dissolved and the member went into the army.
In March, 1918, at Miles City, Mr. Foor enlisted and was stationed at Fort Keogh as an office man until June, then was transferred to the navy as a musician, and sent to Salt Lake, Utah, and subsequently at Bremerton, Washington, was placed in the training camp band and remained there until March 12, 1919, when he was put on the inactive list and allowed to resume his civil duties. Mr. Foor organized the Leonard Dethman Post No. 22 of the American Legion, and is chairman of its executive committee.
With his return to Wolf Point Mr. Foor accepted the responsibilities of secretary of the Wolf Point Commercial Club. He has handled the heavy work of this organization and in many cases has initiated and brought success to movements under the club's auspices. Some of these achievements are noted briefly as follows: The establishment of a United States Free Employment Service at Wolf Pont; a central distributing point for weather forecases of the weather bureau; establishment of a merchants association, of which Mr. Foor is secretary; a community fair association at Wolf Point, providing for rural and other exhibitis properly programmed; the working out and establishment of the most feasible route for the Powder River Trail, connecting Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, and El Paso, Texas; the acquisition through the club leadership of additional territory for the townsite of Wolf Point; and the club's initiative in the establishment through this region of the Roosevelt Highway. In this matter Mr. Foor initiated the correspondence and carried a large share of the total burden of the undertaking. The Commercial Club was also responsible for th establishment of a department of music in the Wolf Point schools.
Mr. Foor is unmarried. Though reared in a democratic atmosphere, his early observation and convictions led him to alliance with the republican party, and he cast his first presidential vote for Mr. Hughes in 1916. Fraternally he is a past noble grand of Lee Lodge No. 386 of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows at Canal Winchester; a member of the Patrons of Husbandry in that community; and joined the Masons at Lithopolis, but is now a member of Loyalty Lodge No. 121 at Wolf Point.

DOB/DOD/POBurial: "Cemeteries of Bloom Twp., Fairfield Co., OH", Fairfield County Gen. Soc., Chapter OGS, 1996, p 33. Name listed as Gulinary Loeffler, child of C. F. & J., 1830-1907.
NAME/DOB: From 1850 census. See notes on father.
SPOUSE: Mentioned as "Caroline Leoffler Myers", but "Gulinary" is also listed... (It's impossible for two children to be born "on the ocean" unless they were twins, but only Caroline shows up in 1850) in father's 1897 partition records, "Partition Record Abstracts, V2, 1851-1900 Fairfield County, Ohio", Fairfield County Chapter OGS, 1988, p 80.

Although Caroline and Gulinary's ages don't agree, it would appear they're the same individual since they both show they were born on the ocean. However, the father's partition records mention both a "Golendary" and a "Caroline Loeffler Myers".

His father, Elisha M. Strode, whose birth occurred September 4, 1835, was for twenty-five years successfully engaged in raising, buying and selling horses and during the Civil war purchased many of these animals for the government. He dealt extensively in fast trotters and in connection with his live-stock interests also carried on agricultural pursuits, meeting with a gratifying measure of prosperity in his undertakings. In his political views he is a stalwart democrat and for the past twenty years has capably served in the position of constable. Fraternally he is connected with the Independent Order of Odd Fellows. NAME/DOB/POB/Spouse/DOD/POD/POBurial: Info from the website and research of Ric Tobin, Alexandria, VA; used with permission, Sept., 1999.
DOM/POM: His 1873 marriage (Fairfield Co., Ohio, probate marriages 1869-1880, FHL Batch M514353) shows he married an "Elizabeth Prepler". I'm sure the double letter 's' in the old handwriting was misread for the letter 'p'. PRESSLER appears to be Elizabeth's prior married name as there's a step daughter named PRESSLER residing with them in 1880.
CENSUS: 1880 Amanda twp., Fairfield Co., OH; p 38D
WILL, Charles, 46y carpenter b PA, parents b PA
", Elizabeth, 38y wife keeps house b OH, fa b PA, ma b OH
", David, 21y son, huckster, b OH, parents b OH
", Luther, 19y son, laborer, b OH, fa b PA, ma b OH
", Maud, 7y dau, at home, b OH, fa b PA, ma b OH
", Lloyd, 1y son, at home, b OH, fa b PA, ma b OH
PRESSLER, Ellen, 20y step dau, assists at home, b OH, parents b OH
The 1880 census would indicate that wife Elizabeth was married before to a PRESSLER who was born in OH and possibly died before this census was taken. That would mean the Elizabeth in the census is not Elizabeth Kesler, and because of the large gap between the ages of children, Maud and Lloyd may be from the union of this Elizabeth and Charles, and that the mother of the other children died sometime after the birth of Luther, abt. 1861, and child Maud, abt. 1873. There is an Elizabeth who matches this description in the cemetery book.
NOTE: The death certificate for child Isaac Luther Will shows he was married to Colista Steward and was the child of Chas. Will b PA and Elizabeth Kesler b OH. He was buried Feb. 5, 1930 in Dutch Hollow cem.
