NAME: Info submitted to ancestry.com by Duke Clark in Feb. 2002. Info not documented.
LOCATION: In the July 2003 obituary of Robert H. Pinner of Mt. Vernon, Ohio, it mentions a surviving sister, Ellene Foore of Monroe, MI. Robert was the son of the late Lester W. and Susie Pinner. Obit published online, July 16, 2003 in the Oakland Press, Oakland, MI.
OBIT: Monroe News, Monroe, MI
Ellene “Pee Wee” Foore, 89 years, of Monroe, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 6, 2015, at the IHM Health Care Center in Monroe, with her loving daughter Margaret at her side. Born January 2, 1926, in Caruthersville, Missouri, Ellene was the daughter of the late Lester W. and Susie E. (Joyner) Pinner. She attended Pontiac High School. She moved to Monroe in 1995 from Waterford, Michigan so she could be close to her daughter and grandchildren. On September 14, 1946, Ellene married her beloved husband Wayne E. Foore in Pontiac, Michigan. Ellene and Wayne met while attending God’s Bible School in Cincinnati, OH. Sadly, he preceded her in death on September 17, 1999, after 53 years of marriage. Ellene was employed by General Motors Corporation for 30 years at the Livonia, Michigan Plant until her retirement in 1981. Ellene was a lifelong member of the Nazarene Church and attended Crosswalk Community Church. A woman of strong Christian faith, Ellene enjoyed attending church and socializing with friends. She enjoyed hosting her special “Tea Parties” at her condo in Monroe. Ellene had quite the passion for shopping, when she found an outfit she loved she would buy it in every color and of course she had to buy several pair of shoes to match. To say her closet was overflowing with shoes would be an understatement. She will be remembered by all for her energetic spunk and wonderful sense of humor. Most of all she will be remembered for her love for family, especially her grandchildren. Ellene is survived by four loving children: Evelyn M. (Robert) Kupczak of Chicago, IL, Connie Goodrich of Austin, TX, Douglas W. Foore of Scottsdale, AZ and Margaret A. (Kevin (Shipman) of Monroe, four cherished grandchildren: Julie (Michael) Stockton of Los Angeles, CA, Gregory (Katie) Shipman of Brownstown, MI, twins: Brett (Valeri) Shipman and Bryan (Savannah Shiflet) Shipman both of Monroe, six treasured great-grandchildren: William, Samuel, Brennan, Brighton, Piper and Blake, and five siblings: Herbert (Ardith) Pinner of Venice, FL, Paul (Ellie) Pinner of Waterford, MI, Richard Pinner of Waterford, MI, Mary Wilhoyt of Waterford, MI and Patricia Parkin of Lake Orion, MI. In addition to her husband and parents, Ellene was preceded in death by an infant twin brother: Eldawene, four additional brothers: Robert, Donald, Grady, and Lester, and two sisters: Wilma and an infant sister. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 3-8 p.m. in the Bacarella Funeral Home, 1201 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, MI 48161. On Thursday, September 10, 2015, she will lie in state at Crosswalk Community Church, 925 S. Telegraph Rd., Monroe, MI, 48161 from 10:00 a.m. until funeral services celebrating her life at 11:00 a.m. The Rev. Dale Hayford, pastor of the church, will officiate. Interment will follow at Roselawn Memorial Park. Memorial donations are suggested to Crosswalk Community Church. Ellene’s family would like to express their sincerest gratitude to the staff at the IHM Health Care Center for the exceptional kindness and care afforded their mother for the five years she was in their care. [6671]
In 1805, Lewis Scothorn seems to have left Greenbrier County, with wife and two children, and crossed to Ohio, probably making the journey in the old covered wagon of that time or possibly on horseback. He took up a goodly piece of land in Walnut township, Pickaway County, which, although then in the center of a wild and unsettled section, was favorably located as to water, the first consideration among our pioneer fathers. The mother of Mary and Joseph died while the family was still new in this locality. At a later date Lewis Scothorn married a Miss Tallman and six sons and two daughters were born to them, who bore the names of Lewis, John, William, George, Charles, Samuel, Eliza and Sarah.
Lewis Scothorn died in 1816, having lived in Walnut township during the whole of his life in Ohio. He was a typical pioneer and gained a great local reputation as a woodsman. He was a man of great industry and began the clearing of the pioneer farm which he did not live to complete.
The widow of Lewis Scothorn subsequently married a Mr. Turner and in her age was generally known as "Grandmother Turner" in her neighborhood, where she lived to advanced years. Mr. Turner died shortly after marriage.
"[Lewis Scothorn] was the son of Lewis Scothorn, Sr., and was born in Chester county, PA., in 1765. Joined the great immigration soon after the Revolutionary War, to the "Greenbrier Country" the region known today as Greenbrier county in West Va., when then comprised a great scope of country. The particular county later where he settled is known today as Monroe county, West Virginia. Here he married and later moved to Pickaway county where he died in 1816 and is buried in Reber Hill cemetery near Amanda, Ohio. [Eiler, Homer,. Our ancestors : a record of these families .... DOD: Joan Byman's World Connect Project submission to ancestry.com. Not documented. On all Joan's submissions, she shows that Ellen was married to "Ray Carrown". I could not find any Ray or Ellen or Ruth Carrown, let alone anyone with that surname at all. I searched the Ohio Death Certificate index and there's someone listed named Ellen Ruth BARROWS with the same death date as Joan shows. I then searched the 1930 census for Ellen Barrows and found the following:
CENSUS: 1930 Columbus, Franklin Co., OH; ED 46 Sh 21A p 193
BARROWS, Pery, head, rents home for $55/month, owns a radio set, does not live on a farm, 54y b WV, parents b OH, truck driver, flour mill
", Hattie, wife 58y b OH, parents b OH
", Edwin, son 31y b OH, salesman, first married at age 24
", Elen Ruth, daughter-in-law, 29y b OH, first married at 22, bookkeeper, grocery
", Ralph, son 25y b OH, salesman, general store
", Dorothy, daughter-in-law 22y b OH, first married at age 19
", Helen, daughter 20y b OH
", Ealph Jr., grandson 1y b OH, parents b OH
It appears "Edwin" is Ellen's husband, although Joan says his name is Ray. Perhaps it's "Ray Edwin".
