DOM/POM: Names listed as Philip Cupp and Sarah Cupp, Ancestry.com. Indiana Marriage Records Index, 1845-1920. Provo, UT: Ancestry.com, 2000. Original Data: Works Progress Administration.
NOTE!! It appears that a possible brother of Philip, named William Cupp, was married to Sarah M. Singleton and had two known children: Johnathan F. and Jacob A. Cupp. William died. In the 1870 census, it looks like Philip now has custody of William's two children, who are later shown as sons in 1880. However, his wife Sarah is shown as only 31 and born in Ohio. By 1880, supposedly the mother of William's children married this Philip Cupp and had more children. BETWEEN the marriages of John and Philip, she supposedly ALSO married another brother, John Cupp, in about 1861. There is info posted to ancestry.com by 3 different people but it is exactly alike, including absolutely no listing of any documentation. Perhaps John Cupp also died. However, what is strange is that John's supposed children are Mary E. and Sarah M. Cupp. If those children are John's, they're already living with Philip by 1870. If that's the case, then in 1870 the first two children listed his brother Williams, and the second two his brother John's.

NAME/DOB/Parentage: HISTORY OF FAIRFIELD AND PERRY COUNTIES, OHIO, THEIR PAST AND PRESENT, Compiled BY A. A. Graham, W. H. BEERS & CO. 1883, p 319.
"After six years another son came to complete the family. He was named George Paschal. The mother supplied the name George, for love of her brother George, and the father the name Paschal in honor of his friend Paschal Shaw, then filling the office of Probate Judge." "THE VILLAGE. MEMORIES OF LITHOPOLIS", John Bartram Kramer, August 1936, p 23.
"My brother, George,, now became interested in printing. He had purchased a little hand card press and had a little business in printing visiting cards for the neighborhood boys and girls, it then being quite a fad among the young people to use them.", THE VILLAGE, MEMORIES OF LITHOPOLIS, John Bartram Kramer, August 1936, p 58.
"My father was then carrying a line of groceries, and among those of the salesmen visiting him was one from Lancaster who manufactured a line of baking powders. To advertise his line of merchandise this man had purchased a printing press with a nine by twelve form, but he was finding that owning a printing press was only a small part of the business of printing. He now offered my brother this press and an outfit of type to be paid in printing. This offer my brother eagerly accepted. Having the press, and the card printing business not taking up all his time, my brother soon acquired the knack of setting up the type in the forms and making up printing. He soon succeeded in getting out a very creditable little paper monthly, which he named the LITHOPOLITAN. He took subscriptions for this at 25 cents per year, and the advertisements therein gave him a little income. This continued for a year or more."
