CARROLL: Madge I. Baker, age 76, of Carroll, died January 4, 2012 at St. Ann's Hospital in Westerville. She was born October 4, 1935 to the late Edward and Mildred Baker. Madge graduated from Carroll High School and retired from S.E.R.S. in Columbus.
In addition to her parents, Madge was preceded in death by her sister, Betty Thomas on August 28, 2011, in Marion, IN.
She is survived by her sister, Mary Lou Brewer of Carroll; niece, Dempsey Brewer of Carroll; nephews, Jim Ellis of Carroll, Ed Thomas of Grove City and Ronald (Susan) Thomas and great-nephew Tyler Thomas of Marion, IN; brother-in-law, Kimbert Thomas of Marion, IN; aunt, Jane (Harold) Pyle of Circleville; and many friends.
Friends may visit Sunday, 6-8 PM and one hour prior to the funeral, at the DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME, 650 W. Waterloo St., Canal Winchester, OH 43110, with the funeral to be held 10:30 AM, Monday. Interment Betzer Cemetery.

BLACK Pauline M. Black, age 94, of Canal Winchester, died Wednesday, September 5, 2007, at Mt. Carmel East Hospital. Born August 25, 1913, in Columbus. She earned her teaching certificate during the depression from Capital University, and received her BS from Ohio State University. In 1936 she signed her first contract to teach first and second grade in Lithopolis for $870.75 annually, teaching there for 11 years. She later taught in Canal Winchester for 6 years, Bellevue for 13 years, and Whitehall for 11 years. She only took 2 sick leave days for her own illness ever. After 41 years of teaching she worked for 13 years at Wagnalls Memorial in the children's library. She was a member of St. John Lutheran Church in Lithopolis, Delta Kappa Gamma Nu Society, O.E.A., N.E.A., Fairfield County Teachers Association, Retired Teachers Association, and Canal Winchester Historical Society. Her hobbies were reading, knitting, cross stitch and traveling. Pauline is survived by her nephew and his wife, Lee and Peggy Smith; their children, Troy (Kelly) Smith, Kelly (Scott) Phillips, Karma (Jan) Wisecarver; and Pauline's favorite grandchildren, Scotty and Kaylee Phillips, Ryleigh and Reid Smith, Vincent, Trace and Beau Wisecarver, all of Canal Winchester; several cousins and many friends. Friends may visit 2-4 and 5-7 p.m. Friday at the DWAYNE R. SPENCE FUNERAL HOME & CREMATORY, 650 W. Waterloo St., Canal Winchester, where funeral service will follow at 7 p.m., with Pastor Joseph Wolf officiating. Entombment will be later in the Smith Mausoluem at Lithopolis Cemetery. Friend who wish may contribute to St. John Lutheran Church or the Children's Library at the Wagnall's Memorial in Pauline's memory.

Funeral services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at the Paul Dowds funeral home in Mt. Vernon, O., for Cecil T. DOWDS, 61, a former Akron resident, who died at the Mercy hospital at Mt. Vernon Tuesday morning after an illness of one week. Mr. Dowds was born March 21, 1899, at Mt. Vernon to Thompson and Manda FOOR DOWDS. Mrs. Cora H. Christopher, 73, of Route 2, Hopewell, died on Monday, Dec. 1, 1969. She was born February 2, 1896 in Hopewell township, a daughter of the late Barton and Rebecca (Dodson) Foor. On December 25, 1912, she was united in marriage with Robert E. Christopher, who survives with the following children: Thomas A. Christopher, Route 2, Everett; Robert E. Christopher Jr., Ambridge, PA; Mrs. Mary K. Long, Elmer R. Christopher and Chester L. Christopher of Route 2, Hopewell; 18 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. Also surviving are the following brothers and sisters: Charles Foor, Defiance; Lloyd Foor, R. D. Hopewell; Mrs. Bessie Musser, Six Mile Run; Mrs. Iva Jean Barthalow, East Palestine, Ohio. She was a member of Cypher Christian Church, where funeral services were held on Wednesday with Rev. Emory Croyle officiating. Kenneth J. Mack 90 of E. Pitt St., Bedford died June 20, 2007 in Myrtle Beach, SC. He was born April 13, 1917 in Hopewell, son of the late Andrew Jackson and Rachael (Foor) Mack. On June 7, 1946 in Wilkinsburg he married Anne E. Williams and she survives along with four sons: Kenneth J. Mack of Bedford, William A. Mack of Myrtle Beach, SC, Edward T. Mack of Murrieta, CA and Ronald J. Mack of Roanoke, VA.,eight grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
Mr. Mack was a member of the South Avenue Methodist Church in Wilkinsburg, a member of Masonic Lodge #582 in Dravosburg and a lifetime member of VFW Post 9809 in Mechanicsville, VA He retired after 45 years as a machinist for Union Switch and Signal in Swissvale. He served in the Army from April 1942 until January 1946 with Co. C, 271st Infantry Regiment, 69th Infantry Division in the European theater.
Memorial service: Friday 11:00 am in the Chapel of Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home in Bedford. with Rev. Jeff Welsch officiating there will also be military honors conducted by the Fort Bedford Honor Guard. Burial at Duvall Cemetery in Six Mile Run.There will be no visitation. OBIT: Accident in Silo is Fatal. A Marysville Rt. 1 farmer, Leland L. Smith, died of suffocation Friday when ensilage from the top of a silo fell on him. The accident occurred at approximately 4 p.m. according to Coroner Dr. Malcolm MacIvor. His son, Ralph David, 13, was with him at the time and narrowly escapeed being struck. Active in community affairs, the 52-year-old man was born in Fairfield County Oct. 6, 1919. He was the son of Jacob Ruben and Ada Mae (Heim) Smith. He married Esther Austin in 1945, who survives. Mr. Smith was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, the Liberty Grange, the NFO and the Farm Bureau. Besides his wife and son, he is survived by two daughters, Linda Lee and Mary Ellen, at home, and a brother, Wendell J. Smith, Aberdeen, Md. Funeral services are at 1 p.m. Tuesday... services will also be held Wednesday in Canal Winchester. Burial will be in Lithopolis Cem. [Journal Tribune, Marysville, Ohio, Feb. 14, 1972]
