LOCATION: 1906 - Thieves stole a new buggy from the barn of Joseph Foor, who resides on a farm near Rockford. The robbers showed that they were well acquainted with the property and were possibly home talent. [Van Wert Times-Bulletin, Van Wert, Ohio, Feb. 23, 1906]

LOCATION: 1907 - Application has been made for the appointment of a guardian for Joseph Foor, a Van Wert county inmate of the State Hospital at Toledo. [Van Wert Times-Bulletin, Van Wert, Ohio, Dec. 24, 1907]

"His father, John FOOR, was born in Pennsylvania, when he moved to Fairfield county, Ohio, where he married Sarah Young, and settled on a 40 acre farm which he cultivated until his death. Joseph Foor, our subject, was reared on this farm, but, his parents being in somewhat straightened circumstances, his educational advantages were very meager. On reaching maturity he married Sarah TOWER, who has borne him the following children: Mrs. Emma Murphy, William, Sarah A., Henry, Mary, Gustavus, John, Frank, Mrs. Ellie Douglass, Burt T., Jess I., George M. and Ollie G., who have all been fairly well educated. The father of this family came to Van Wert county when it was in a very wild condition, and bought forty acres of land to which he has added forty acres, and now has the prettiest farm of it's size in the county of Van Wert, all most excellently cultivated.", "A Portrait and Biographical Record of Mercer and Van Wert Counties, Ohio", A. W. Bowen and Co., 1896, p 185.

"Joseph Foor became mentally ill and died in the Toledo State Hospital on March 2, 1908, aged 71y 8m 22d. His wife, Sarah Lucy, died of tuberculosis at the family home on August 1, 1909, aged 69y 5m 3 d. They were both interred in the Greenbrier Cem., Willshire Twp., Van Wert Co., OH" - from info compiled by Joan (Stover) Burtchin, granddaughter of William Jerome Foor, June 16, 1998.

1908 - The funeral of Joseph Foor, an aged resident of this vicinity, was held last Wednesday. (Glenmore news). [Van Wert Daily Bulletin, Van Wert, OH, March 14, 1908]

MIDDLE NAME/POB: From himself via email Jan. 2005.

"[Son] Mason Foor (Mike) died from an aortic aneurism in April 1997. There was no indication of any medical problem other than Mike had complained of shortness of breath one week prior. A visit to the doctor yielded nothing. Within 6-months Steven was diagnosed with an aortic aneurism. Emergency surgery was performed and the aneurism, at the aortic arch was repaired and the aortic valve was replaced with a St. Judes mechanical valve. Steven remains in excellent health and has few life effecting limitations from the surgery. This was obviously a genetic defect that other family memebers need to be aware of; although it is thought to have came from Steven's maternal family. Steven's mother (age 79), died of an aneurism. Her sister (age 78 or 79) and brother (age 90) died, late in life, of suspected aneurisms. Kristopher, Steven's youngest son is screened regularly and shows no
health problems."

"William Foore, Sr. In 1903 William Foore sold his sawmill in Idaho, USA, and moved to Canada with his wife and family of three children. William Jr. was just an infant. The Foores bought land between Carstairs and Didsbury, but their crop was hailed out, so they sold out and in 1906 they moved to Stettler, Alberta to homestead, and sell real estate. Here a son was born and since he was the first white boy born in the area, was given the name "Stettler".

While in Stettler, William built a fine three-story house and here daughter Kathleen was born in 1908. About 1911, the family lived in Calgary and Vancouver for awhile, before returning to the state, where they lived until 1920 when they came to the Peace River Country and bought Howard McComb's homstead S. E. 30-73-6 and rented Lawrence Kennedy's Script N 1/2-30. In 1928 the school section No. 29 was sold and Foores bought the southwest quarter.

In 1934 Kathleen died quite suddenly. Mr. and Mrs. Foore continued to farm until 1952, when they retired and sold the farm to Mr. Exstein. He sold to Lloyd Moore and Moore sold to George and Mrs. Sayle.

Mr. Foore was renowned for his fine peony garden. He died in Grand Prairie in 1961 at eighty-nine years and Mrs. Foore died in 1975 at ninety-nine and ten months.

Stettler Foore married Hazel Ginter. They raised a daughter and a son. Stet is retired and lives at Bezanson. He was honored at a celebration in Stettler a few years ago.

In 1926 W. D. Foore (William Jr.) bought J. A. Holroyd's homestead, N. W. 20-74-6 and, in 1928, he married Charlotte W. Biendarra, better known as Lottie. About 1930 a son, Wallace, was born. Bill, Lottie and son Wally still live on the farm. Bill bought Jack Cummins half across the road, from Stanley Halwa, and they farmed it for a few years before reselling the south quarter to Alfred Mielke of Sexsmith and the north one to Mr. Schmidt.

Mrs. Foore has always grown a fine garden.

Bill raised hogs and cattle for many years until about 1970. Theirs is one of the tidiest farms around, with everything in it's place. "Peter Powell - Was married to Mary Alspaugh, daughter of Henry Alspaugh.
After his marriage he rented a farm in Mifflin County, PA., where he remained
until 1814, when he, with his family, moved to Bloom Twp., Fairfield County,
Ohio, where he bought 320 acres of land. His children were as follows:
Samuel, Catherine, Henry, Elizabeth, John, Jacob, Philip, Daniel, Polly,
Rebecca, Peter and George." Powell, John,. Authentic genealogical memorial

others, with miscellaneous items and incidents of interest. Dayton, Ohio:
Published for the author, 1880, p 43

"The Powells, Jacob, John and Philip, came in 1833. They were born in Pennsylvania, whence they removed with their parents to Fairfield County, Ohio. In the fall of 1831 they each entered land in Eagle Township, Jacob in Section 5, John in Section 9, and Philip in Section 8. Jacob married Miss Mary M. Hart, in 1831, and in June, 1833, removed to this county, settling permanently the following month where he now lives. Mr. Powell has been justice of the peace twenty-four years, a fair evidence of his standing in the community where he has lived so long. His wife is the mother of fourteen children, twelve of whom grew to maturity and nine are yet living. John Powell, with his wife, Polly (Fellers), came in the fall of 1833, and located in Section 9. He was twice married, and died in Findlay March 2, 1885. Philip Powell married Elizabeth Fellers; he did not settle permanently on his land till 1834. His wife died here, and he was afterward twice married, dying upon the old homestead, Where his son, Peter, now lives, August 29, 1866. The parents of these three pioneers came to the county at a later day and passed their declining years among their children.", THE HISTORY OF HANCOCK COUNTY, OHIO; Warner, Beers & Co., 1886, p 410

"John Powell married Polly Fellers, a cousin to Henry Powell's wife. He is the father of three children, and is now living in Findlay, Ohio", Powell, John,. Authentic genealogical memorial history of Philip Powell of Mifflin Co., Pa.. : and his descendants and others, with miscellaneous items and incidents of interest. Dayton, Ohio: Published for the author, 1880, p 73.

"John Powell, son of Peter Powell, was born in Mifflin County, Pa., May 24, 1806. When eight years old he came with his parents to Fairfield County, Ohio, where he learned to do all manner of farm-work. He was married Sept. 20th, 1826, to Polly Fellers, daughter of Henry Fellers. She was born Dec. 25, 1808. After their marriage they lived with his father and farmed for him. They were both confirmed in the Germany Reformed Church. He was very zealous in contending for a form of religion but knew nothing of the power. In 1834 they moved to Eagle Twp., Hancock Co., Ohio, where he had entered 420 acres of land. He went to work with a good will, and with the assistance of hired help, soon opened up a large farm. In the course of time he built a sawmill on a stream which flowed through the farm. He farmed extensively, run the sawmill when he had the water-power, and made condsiderable money. But in consequence of overwork and exposure to wet and cold weather, he became afflicted with dropsy, and ofr several years suffered much affliction. His wife also became sickly, and died April 23d, 1862, in bright hopes of heaven and a happy rest from all suffering.

"About 1835 they were both convicted of sin and hopefully converted to God. They united with the Evangelical Association, under the pastoral labors of Rev. Mr. Bucks, late of Pennsylvania, a missionary to Hancock County, Ohio.... Sept. 15, 1862, Brother Powell concluded to marry again, and chose Miss Rebecca Miller, a very fine Christian lady. She was born in Fairfield County, Ohio, Dec. 25, 1832. He had no children with his first wife, but has three with his second; namely, Jeremiah, born Jun 26, 1863; Amos, born July 17, 1865; Mary Rebecca, born May 24, 1871. |--Sarah WRIGHT

INDEX

[30877] The info on these sisters, at least from census records, is almost humorous.
In 1850 they were 45, yet by 1860 they were 11 years younger and only 44. In
1870 sister Sarah is not found, but "Wright Wright" is the first entry, shown
as male, but same age as Jane. "Wright Wright" is probably Sarah. They were
50 in 1870, but in 1880 they aged considerably and listed as 73. Sarah died
soon after the 1880 census was recorded. Jane lived until 1897. The data
for Lithopolis cemetery shows Sarah died July 6, 1880 at age 69. She is one
of the tombstones that was recorded by Charles Wagner in 1942, though at that
time Jane's was not. Being the sister who outlived the other, Jane may not
have had a tombstone erected. The data from the cemetery records shows Jane
died Aug. 29, 1897 at 90y. Perhaps the age was a guess.
