FURR, Martha 55y b KY

NOTE: I'm only ASSUMING at this time that Martha is the mother of William because of the state of birth and proximity to William FURR and his family in the 1850 census, as well as children listed in both families being b in IA. My guess is that Elenora I. HOLT is also a child of Martha.

NOTE: I'm a little stumped by this Kenneth Christian. I couldn't find any Christian in the Ohio death index who died in May 2000 except for James Ernest Christian, b 1951 who died in Cuyahoga Co., and Mitch Christian b 1917 who died in Summit Co., Ohio. I couldn't find any Christian who died in May 2000 with the last known address in the state of Ohio in the SSDI. I also couldn't find any Kenneth Christian in either of these databases who died in May, regardless of the year. My guess is that I either mis-typed this info back in 2002 when I abstracted it, or perhaps Kenneth was a middle name and his legal/public name was different.

"DANIEL FELLER, farmer, P. O. Rawson, Hancock Co., Ohio, was born January 17, 1811, in Fairfield County, Ohio. His parents, Henry and Catherine (Robinult) Feller, natives of Lehigh County, Penn., spent their active lives in Fairfield County, Ohio, where the former died in about 1831; the latter afterward came to this county on a visit and died in Rawson in September, 1868, aged seventy-nine years. Daniel Feller, the subject of this sketch, was united in marriage with Miss Elizabeth Donaldson, while in Fairfield County, Ohio, and they settled near the center of Eagle Township, this county, in April, 1834. Mrs. Feller dying in the spring of the following year, Mr. Feller then sold his farm and returned to Fairfield County, Ohio, where he was again married (this time, September 4, 1836, to Miss Mary Donaldson), and came again to Eagle Township November 13, 1839, entering the farm on which he-now resides. Mr. Feller at once began clearing up the farm and developing it, erecting thereon a fine brick residence in 1852, the third brick house built in the township, and has also made many other valuable improvements. He is now the owner of a fine and valuable farm of 160 acres of land. To Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Feller were born twelve children. They had the misfortune to lose five of them within two weeks, in November, 1869, from diphtheria; the eldest of these was seventeen years and the youngest four years of age. They also lost one child; two years of age October 24, 1842, and May 11, 1884, a daughter, Mrs. Catherine Sterling, of Wood County, Ohio, died in the thirty-ninth year of her age. Their children now living are Oliver H., of Wood County, Ohio; Mrs. Lucy Ann Fahl and Mrs. Mary Watkins, of Hancock County, Ohio; John D., of Wood County, Ohio, and Mr's. Melissa Emeline Crowley, of Wood County, Ohio. Mrs. Feller died February 13, 1886, in the sixty-ninth year of her age, after twelve weeks of lingering illness. She was a member of the Evangelical Association, as is also Mr. Feller, who ranks among the most honored pioneers of Eagle Township. "HISTORY OF HANCOCK COUNTY, OHIO", Warner, Beers & CO., 1886, p 713-714.

Son Oliver was born Oct. 7, 1838 died April 7, 1909 in Perrysburg, Wood Co., Ohio. Parents listed as Mr. Daniel Feller b OH and Mrs. -- Donelson b OH. Informant was S. T. Feller of North Baltimore. Buried in North Baltimore April 11. Farmer. Married. [death certificate image]

OBIT: Hon. William H. H. Foor died at his home in East Providence on August 17 after a long-continued illness at the age of sixty-eight years. The funeral services were held on Friday and the remains were placed at rest in the Ray's Cove cemetery. Judge Foor was a civil war veteran and saw service in company H. 107 regiment, Pennsylvania volunteers, under Generals McDowell and Hooker. He was a true and courageous soldier and saw hard service with the Army of the Potomac. He was honorably discharged in 1864 on account of disabilities contracted in the service, and to these injuries his death may be traced. He was a policital leader in the Republican ranks in his township, and was elected associate judge in 1890, which position he filled for five years. Since the death of his wife some years ago he has been making his home with his children. He was a member of the Christian church and was respected by those who knew him. [Bedford Gazette, Bedford, PA, August 26, 1904]

NOTE: In the obituary it mentions "his children", yet I only have one child listed. In his daughter Charlotte's April 1903 obituary, it mentions she was the only child of the ex-Judge W. H. H. Foor.

Email dated July 2005 from "Julia" whose last name may be Harvick:

Shelly,

I recently purchased an 1812 or 1842 Deringer percussion rifle. Included were documents: Pension Certificate issued to William H. H. Foor, a survey conducted by Daniel Sams for the purchase of 8 as and 58. ps from Wm Latty by David Foor on 31July 1861, a note written to Judge Foor on Aug 15, 1904 (on Hotel Waverly stationary), three tin photos: one of woman standing, one of a woman sitting and one of a child sitting on someone's lap. A Civil War rank patch and unit crest (CCC 344). 18 envelopes addressed to Stella Morse, who according to your website married Murray Elmer Foor on 23 April 1902. Three of the envelopes contain letters: one addressed My Dear Sister Stella, one from cousin Minnie Grafmiller in Ligonier IN.

I thought I would take a chance and see if I got any internet hits on any of the names listed and low and behold your website came up.

Anyway, I purchased the rifle for investment. I have not had time to check value of stamps (1c, 1 1/2c and 2c) and other memorabilia including a trading card for Dilworths Coffee, advertisement for Wenck's cough syrup and a saving certificate for The Cambria Manufacturing Co of Johnstown PA.

After I have completed the research and if other items are of no monetary value, I would like to give all back to family.

Thanks,

Julia

[I replied to her with information on this William Foor and asked her if she could scan the info so that it could be used on the website]

"Only the Pension Certificate, civil war rank and unit patches, and pictures were in the rifle box. The text that follows explains where the other items came from.

The gentleman I bought the rifle from told me his father bought the rifle in 1952/53 from a young girl living in a home near where they were camping. The campground was located just outside of Everett on the Juniata Creek. While they were camping the young girl approached them and asked if he would be interested in buying the rifle for $10.00, she said she needed money to purchase a dress, to go to a dance. When asked where she got the rifle, she said they had placed a horse in a back stall of the barn and the horse kicked the box out from under some stuff toward the back of the stall. Shortly after buying the rifle they were approached by the girl's father, he said he had boxes of stuff in the attic of the house and offered to sell anything wanted. That is where all the other items came from.

I have a few photos of the house that I will scan and send. I spoke to Frank last night and he explained the house as an old farmhouse made of stone blocks with intermittent gun ports visible.

Now I am at the mercy of my husband's ability to use the scanner, as soon as I can get him to scan the items in I will send to you.

Thanks,

Julia

[I have replied several times over the years, asking her if she got the items scanned. I never got a return reply.]

INDEX

[16889] The first time I found Samuel Morehart was in the 1870 census. He didn't appear to be a son of Henry, who he's residing with, so I assume he is somehow otherwise related, such as a nephew. I found a death certificate that seems to match that of this particular Samuel, though in trying to track him via census records it's been very difficult. Whether or not the censuses shown here are for this same Samuel Morehart is not known.

CENSUS: 1870 Bloom Twp., Fairfield Co., OH; visitation 231/236
MOREHART, Henry 28y farm laborer b OH

1920 - Raymond Morehart and sister Mina were living with their grandmother, Susan E. Anderson in Terrell, Kaufman Co., TX.

Son Raymond Anderson Morehart was of Terrell, Kaufman Co., TX age 18 b Dec. 2, 1899 and a student at Austin College. His nearest relative was Miss Mina Morehart of same address (505 W. Moore) according to his draft registration form.

Death certificate image 31691. Sam Morehart, Franklin Co. Tuberculosis Sanitarium, Marion Twp., Franklin Co., Ohio, May 16, 1926, aged 66y 5m 5d, died of pulmonary tuberculosis, single, born Dec. 12, 1858 in Ohio to unknown parents. "Known as 'Bursie'. Was tall, elegant, lkable and dressed well. Lived in Beaver Falls, PA. Buried Yellow Creek, PA. Died of cancer. Was exempted from WWI for heart disease. The doctor told him to give up driving because it was stressful, and to walk as much as possible. He owned a 1927 Studebaker with wooden wheels, burgundy red with a black removable top with isinglass windows. He was the Chief Accountant for Armour Meat Company and would not take home any meat unless he had personally supervised in processing. The family always had good meat to eat, even during the Depression. His daughter Steese and her friend had to go to the movies so they could have a hot dog. After his 1st wife died, he married her sister. He was in the 1936 Jamestown, PA flood. He and his daughter Steese lived in Johnstown near the valley floor. He called home to say the dam was about to break and to 'head for the hills' (get out of the valley). Steese, with her infant daughter Wilna Ann, and pregnant with Robert Blair, got into a car and drove uphill as far as they could just before the flood hit." From Steve Hanson via 1998 email.
