OBIT: William J. Foor, aged 27 years, Six Mile Run coal miner, was instantly killed yesterday afternoon about 2 o'clock while at his work at the Bunker Hill Coal Company mine on the Six Mile Run branch. The young man had come out of the mine and had entered a building where supplies were stored, presumably for the purpose of either getting dynamite or to get supplies necessary to set off a shot, in some manner an explosion occurred. It was evident that the explosives were in his hands at the time of the let-go. Coroner N. A. Timmins, M. D., of Bedford, conducted the investigation. The Daily News learned today that no inquest will be held. William J. Foor was a son of Clay and Mary McGee Foor, and was born in Broad Top township, Bedford Co., PA., on July 22, 1908. At the time of death he was aged 27 years 6 months and 19 days. He was united in marriage to Miss Mildred Barton, who survives with two sons, Norman and Robert W. Foor, both at home. Also surviving are the parents and one brother, Alton Foor, all of Finleyville. The body was prepared for burial by Robert E. Huff, Saxton, undertaker. Funeral services will be held at the Lutheran church at Breezewood, Bedford county, on Monday afternoon. Interment will be made in the Breezewood cemetery. WILL: Bedford County PA Will Book #2, p 444, January 10, 1849, E. Providence
Twp. Mentioned in will are wife Margaret FOOR. 4 sons, John G. FOOR, David
FOOR, Leonard J. FOOR, George W. FOOR. Four daughters: Catherine HUGHEY, Mary FOOR, Elizabeth FOOR and Susanna KING. Executors are "esteemed sons" John J. and David FOOR.

Bedford County Archives, Vol. 5, page 18. "John FOOR (FUHR) was born 1744 in Philadelphia county and was the son of Johann Lenhart Foor who came from Germany to America in 1742. He furnished a pack horse for the Braddock Expedition, 1755. John Foor married in 1774 in Philadelphia county, served in Washington's Army during the Revolution, under Captains Drine and Shnyder, and migrated to Bedford County, Providence Township about 1788. His son Leonard was born 1779 and married 1810. He had eight children, his eldest son David born 1811 and married about 1835. David's youngest son was Simon Jasper Newton, born 1847, and married Hannah Manspeaker, 1865. Their son, A. F. Foor of Everett, was born 1873."

NOTE: The above text says Leonard was married in 1810, yet he had children born before 1810. Also, in the 1830 census the oldest female is only 15-20 and most likely a daughter or daughter-in-law or other relation, though it could possibly be a subsequent wife. "Margaret", although mentioned as his widow in his will, is most likely not the mother of some (or all?) of these children.

".... Reynoldsburg, Ohio. At that place Amasa B. Gillett learned the carpenter's trade and after following that pursuit for some time he came to Fairfield county, establishing his home in Carroll. Here he married Priscilla Jane Wilson, a daughter of Isaac Wilson, who as a wedding present presented the young couple with a farm on section 7, Greenfield township. It was there taht two sons were born unto them: Isaac Wilson and Frank C. Shortly after the birth of the latter Mrs. Gillett died, and for his second wife the father of our subject [Edward Mithoff Gillett] married Sarah M. Myers, the wedding taking place on the 8th of January 1867. She was a daughter of Andrew Myers, a resident of Jefferson, Ohio, and by the second marriage was born one son, Edward Mithoff, whose name introduces this review. The father managed the farm and also engaged in general contracting and building houses, barns and bridges. He was also county commissioner for six years and was an active and influential member of the County Agricultural Society, of which he served as president for several terms, while for a number of years he was one of its directors. In his various business interests he met with success, and when the two sons of his first marriage had attained their majority he purchased their interest in the home farm, which had been given to their mother on her marriage. In his will, however, he bequeathed the farm to them in equal shares, which he had bought of them. In 1883, he was appointed Superintendant of the Fairfield County Children's Home near Lancaster, being the first one to occupy that position. The board of directors made a wise choice when they selected Mr. Gillett and he was continued in position until the first of April, 1896, when he resigned and removed to Lancaster, where he lived retired until his death February 7, 1900. His widow still survives him and is yet living in that city. She is a member of the Presbyterian church and is active in many good works. Her father, Andrew Myers, was a Pennsylvania German and died in Jefferson, Ohio, at the very advanced age of ninety-five years. A Biographical record of Fairfield and Perry Counties, Ohio. New York: S.J. Clarke Pub. Co., 1902, pp 298-299.
