DOD/POD: Ohio Department of Health. Ohio Deaths, 1970-88 [database on-line] Provo, UT: Ancestry.com, 2001-. Original electronic data from: Ohio Department of Health. Index to Annual Deaths, 1970-88. Died in Columbus, resided in Fairfield Co., Ohio. Widowed.
"Mary Margurite Huston, was born 18 Oct 1899 in Gahanna, Franklin County,
Ohio. She was adopted by Stephen Elmer Allen Jr and his wife Emma Stagg Allen as an infant. She grew up in Mifflin Township, Franklin County, with her three brothers - Claude, Eldon, and Lester. About 1920, she met and married my grandfather, John Albert Thrash. As newlyweds, they lived in Columbus for a short time; but moved to the Thrash Family Farm by 1930. The Thrash home is just up the road from Salem, at the corner of Slough Road. John and Mary Thrash had four daughters: Norma, Marjorie, Doris (my mother), and Marie. The four girls grew up on the farm, and attended Salem Church. All four girls were also married at the Thrash home, one after another; until all were married and gone to embark on their new lives. My mother Doris (now Doris Hamler), died at the young age of 45; from emphysema and heart disease; due in part from complications of Scarlet Fever she had as a child. She was buried at Salem in 1968. Four years later, her father (and my grandfather) John Albert Thrash, was laid to rest just a few feet away in 1972. Finally, my grandmother, Mary Margurite Huston Allen Thrash, was laid to rest beside her husband in 1976. They were among the last to be buried at Salem, as the cemetery is now full." Written and emailed to me by John C. HAMLER of Columbus, Ohio, Dec. 2003.
John later found information in which he said, " Mary Margurite Huston. (That is how you have her listed). In my email of December 2003, I said her name was Huston; and adopted by Allen. It turns out; she was an ALLEN, adopted by a HUSTON. She was the daughter of Stephen Elmer Allen Jr,-(1869-1957), and Emma Stagg-1878-1900). The family is first noted in the 1900 census of Mifflin, Franklin, Ohio. Listed are Stephen and his wife Emma; then the 3 older boys, Claude, Eldon, and Lester, then Mary who was only 1 year old." [Nov. 2011 email].
Marriage Certificate: John A. Thrash, 18 years of age on 3rd day of Feby.,
1919, resides Columbus, Ohio, born in Fairfield Co., Ohio to Ervin A. Thrash
and Mary E. Finney, not previously married. Mary Huston, 20 years of age on
18th day of Oct 1919 resides Franklin Co., Ohio, born Franklin Co., Ohio to
Frank A. Huston and Emma Stagg, not previously married, married 26th day of
Nov. 1919 by E. E. Harris, minister.

Lancaster Eagle-Gazette
Abstract: Death: 5 May 1929, age 76. Lafayette A. Smith, son of Peter and Nancy Ann Smith was born on May 25, 1852 near Lithopolis, Ohio and died on May 5, 1929, at his home in Lithopolis, Ohio, at the age of 76 years, 11 months, and 10 days. He was united in marriage December 1, 1878 to Pella Esther Oyler, of Lithopolis, Ohio. To this union nine children were born: Martin, Steve and Mrs. May Bowman of Lithopolis, Monroe of Canal Winchester, Ray of Zalzell, Illinois, Leroy of Ashville, and Mrs. Ella Weidner of Royalton, and two infant sons who preceded the father to the great beyond. He was also preceded in death by his father, mother, two sisters and five grandchildren. He leaves to mourn their loss, a loving wife, one sister, Mrs. Charley Miller of Columbus, two brothers, Peter of Centerberg, and John of Reynoldsburg, twenty-five grandchildren, one great grand-daughter, besides the children and a host of other relatives and friends. This father has welcomed his children one by one, into his earthly home and now has been taken from them for a little while only to be ready to welcome them one by one, into a brighter and happier home where there is no suffering or parting. he was baptised in infancy and in his early life he united with the M.E. Church of Lithopolis, to which he remained a faithful member until his Maker saw fit to answer for him the question--What is death? What is death? No more to love or hopes or fear, To join the great equality; All, all alike are humbled there. The mighty grave wraps lord and slave; Not pride nor poverty dares Come within refuge house. "What means my trembling heart, To be thus shy of death." My life and I shan't part Though I resign my breath. Then welcome, harmless grave! By thee to heaven I'll go; My Lord, his death shall save Me from the flames below."
Card of Thanks We wish to thank all who have aided us during the death and burial of our beloved husband and father. We especially thank the minister and singers and those who gave floral tributes and Mr. Kistler, the undertaker; the remembrance of your loving sympathy and helpfulness will endure during the lonely days to come and help us to bear our great sorrow. Mrs. pella Smith and Children. Funeral services were held in Lithopolis M.E. Church, May 8, at 2 p.m. by Rev. Bailey. Burial in Lithopolis cemetery.
