"Andrew Beck and family came from Fairfield County, Ohio, with his
brother-in-law, John Fenstemaker, and located on land in this township
previously entered by his father, Andrew Beck, Sr., who had taken up several
hundred acres. His brother Daniel came out about two years later, and
afterward their brothers, Henry, Peter and John, joined the settlement, all
locating in what is now Amanda, except Henry whose farm was in Ridge, and
included in the territory taken in the erection of Wyandot County. The
parents, Andrew and Catherine, did not settle here until some time after the
sons, and both died in the township. Andrew, Jr., died near Wharton; Daniel
removed to Missouri and there died; Henry died on his farm in Wyandot County;
Peter died in this township; John resides in Indiana, and the two daughters,
Mrs. John Fenstemaker and Mrs, Jacob Backer, live on their respective
homesteads in Hancock and Wyandot Counties" "HISTORY OF HANCOCK COUNTY,

NAME: Deborah (Hart) Fields via March, 2000, email.
MIDDLE NAME/DOM/POM: info submitted to ancestry.com (unknown submitter: js2921@earthlink.net").
OBIT: John Lashley Fletcher was born in Monroe twp., Bedford Co., on Dec. 1, 1819, and died at his home in the Mann Addition to Bedford Bourough on June 3, 1902, after an illness of 6 weeks. He was a son of Jacob Fletcher. With the exception of four or five years, which time he spent in Fulton county, he lived at Ray's Hill and Everett. In 1890 he moved to Bedford and resided here ever since. For many years he followed carpentering and afterward was employed as a tanner by J. B. Hoyt & Co., and Fayerweather & Ladew. He countined at this occupation as long as he was able to work, when, about twenty years ago, he laid aside the tools he had skillfully handled so long and enjoyed a well-earned rest. In 1862 Mr. Fletcher enlisted in the 133rd Regiment, Pennsylvania volunteers. He was appointed color bearer and participated in a number of battles, among them being those at Chancellorsville and Fredericksburg. Bedfore the war he belonged, successively, to the Old Whig, the Know Nothing and the Republican parties, b ut during the strife he became a Democrat and remained true to the principles of that organization the remainder of his life. For a long time he was constable of Monroe township.
Fifty-seven years ago he was united in marriage to Miss Sarah A. Foor, daughter of John Foor, of Ray's Cove. Mrs. Fletcher died in March, 1901. Mr. Fletcher was the father of eight children, six of whom are still living, namely, W. Scott, of Bedford; H. Clay, of Clearfield; Mrs. Henry Friddle, of Moorefield, W. Va.; Mrs. William Dice, of Coketown, W. Va.; Mrs. B. H. Bucy, of Jamison City, and Judith, at home. Funeral services were held on Thursday at 4 p.m. and were conducted by Rev. George Leidy, pastor of the Methodist Episcopal church. Interment was made in the Bedford cemetery.
Mr. Fletcher was a member of the M. E. church for many years. He was a brave soldier, a good citizen, a kind, generous-hearted man. [Bedford Gazette, Bedford, PA., June 6, 1902]
Info posted by David Fletcher, GenConnect query boards, online, October 2001: Born Dec. 1, 1819, in what is now Monroe Twp., Bedford County, son of Jacob Fletcher [(1794-1875), oldest son of Philip and Mary Fletcher of Allegany County, MD; and Elizabeth Lashley, ca. 1798- ca. 1830...no definite dates for her]. He died in the Mann Addition of Bedford Borough on June 3, 1902, after an illness of 6 weeks.
He was married in 1845 to Sarah Foor (1815-Mar. 22, 1901), daughter of John Foor of Ray's Cove. They had a total of 8 children, 6 of whom were still living in 1902: Winfield Scott Fletcher of Bedford; Henry Clay Fletcher of Clearfield, Pa; Mrs. Henry Friddle of Moorefield, WVA; Mrs. William Dice of Coketown, WVA; Mrs. B.H. Bucy of Jamison City, PA; and Judith Fletcher, at home.
They were buried in Bedford Cemetery, just northwest of town on Business Rt. 220.
When John and Sarah were first married, they lived briefly in Fulton County, just east of Ray's Hill, where they subsequently moved to, and from there to Everett. In 1890, they relocated to Bedford. Early on, John worked as a carpenter, and for many years was also constable for Monroe Twp; after the Civil War, and service in the 133 rgt. PA Volunteer Infantry, he worked for two tanneries in Everett. Around 1880, he retired.
They were members of the Methodist Episcopal Church in Bedford. Previous to the Civil War, John was a member of the Old Whig, Know-nothing, and Republican Parties; afterwards, he became a Democrat.
