OBIT: [Rochester Sentinel, Rochester, IN, 30 Dec 1916] Edward Alspach, 78, died suddenly Saturday morning at 6:30 at his residence on south Monroe street, as the result of an attack of apoplexy. He got up about six o'clock and started the kitchen fire and then telling his wife that he would take a short nap he went back to bed. Mrs. Alspach got up a few minutes later and after preparing breakfast, called her husband. When he died not respond, she attempted to awaken him, discovering that he had passed away without a struggle or sound. Edward Alspach was born in Fairfield county, Ohio, 7 Aug 1838. When 16 years of age he moved to Fulton county with his parents. Mr. Alspach lived for years on a farm east of Rochester, the place that is now occupied by his son, Calder Alspach. Mr. Alspach was married twice, the mother of his two children passing away a number of years ago. About 14 years ago he married again, Mrs. Susan Alspach surviving. He leaves the following brothers and sisters: Sylvester and Ezra of this city, Mrs. Susan Blackburn of near Rochestser, Mrs. Louisa Miller of Macy, and Mrs. Samuel Miller of Nebraska. Altho he was seriously handicapped in later years by reason of poor hearing, Mr. Alspach was always congenial and pleasant. He was greatly liked by everyone, youn and old.

Edward Alspach was initiated in Rochester Lodge # 47, I.O.O.F. July 13 1864 and was the oldest living member of the local order. He held continueous membership for more than 52 years. He was also a member of Mt. Horeb #24 since July 5, 1869, or for more than 47 years. Several years ago the order presented the oldest member with a gold headed cane and at the time it was given to Isaac Good, and at his death the cane was given to Jonas Myers, and then to Mr. Alspach. It will now be given to Henry P. Mowe who was initiated June 20, 1868. Funeral Monday afternoon at two o'clock at the house, Rev. S. A. Warriner in charge. [ROCHESTER SENTINEL, Rochester, IN]

POBurial: Name listed as David Brobst, died June 20, 1885, aged 74y 3m 10d. Cemetery transcription by Donna Walters posted ca 2002 to the Pickaway Co., Ohio, GenWeb website.

"David Brobst, deceased, was for many years an honored and highly respected citizen of Fairfield county, Ohio. He was born on the 10th of March, 1821, in Bloom township, where he spent his entire life, and rpresented one of the first families in the county. He established the post office at Marcy and there engaged in merchandising, building up an extensive trade, his patronage steadily increasing as the years passed by. He also engaged in buying wool on a very large scale, controlling that trade through a wide area. He also dealt in clover seed and in various branches of his business he met with excellent success, his efforts being attended by a high degree of prosperity. In politics he generally supported the Republican party and in religious belief was a Lutheran, holding membership in Trinity church of Marcy. Mr. Brobst passed away in 1895, at th age of seventy years, and in his death the community realized that it had lost one of its valued citizens. He was a very active and influential man and his efforts had been of pratical benefit to the community as well as to himself and family, while his life was at all times consistent with upright business principles and manly conduct.

"Mr. Brobst was twice married, his first wife being Leigh Culp, and to them were born eight daughters, namely: Manerva, Malinda, Pauline, Emma, Alice, Sarah, Mary and Fannie. On the 19th of September, 1876, Mr. Brobst was united in marriage to Miss Cilicia Dove, who was also born in Bloom township in 1846, and is a representative of one of its old and respected families, being a daughter of Elijah and Mary (Small) Dove, the former a native of Bloom township and the later of Pennsylvania. Her paternal grandfather was Henry Dove, who possessed a most wonderful memory. The family was founded in Fairfield county at an early period in its development and became one of prominence in Bloom township. The parents of Mrs. Brobst were people of religious convictions and earnest Christians, commanding the respect of all with whom they were associated. Mr. Dove carried on agricultural pursuits and was well known in political circles, holding a number of township offices in which he discharged his duties in a very prompt and faithful manner. He died in December, 1896, at the age of eighty-four years, having survived his wife, who passed away on the 1st day of September, 1884, at the age of sixty-four years. She became the mother of 15 children, thirteen of whom reached years of maturity, and ten of the number are now living.

"Mrs. Brobst spent her girlhood under the parental roof, where she became familiar with the duties of the household. Since her husband's death she has conducted the business which he left and is now enjoying a good trade. She carries a complete stock of merchandise and her earnest desire to please, her fair prices and good business methods have won for her very gratifying and creditable success. She also has charge of the postoffice. She is a lady of unusual ability, possessing business and executive force as well as the graces of social life, which render her a favorite in social circles. A Biographical record of Fairfield and Perry Counties, Ohio. New York: S.J.
Clarke Pub. Co., 1902, pp 104-105.

[14012] Karyn Espenlaub writes in April 2001 that she heard from her cousin (no name) and she says "Feel free to let the person know that I will answer questions about the Foor's if they wish. However, my grandfather [Leslie] was adopted into the Foor family and his real ancestry was under the name of Border. I probably would not be of much help". Since the 1900 census shows this particular Leslie FOOR was an adopted son, I'm going to merge the two Leslie FOOR's together, even though the obituary for the other shows that he was the s/o "K. L. Foor". The fact that both were born in April 1885 is another connecting factor that leads me to believe that these two Leslie's are one and the same.

"I found the following article in with the Stuckey family papers. I'm not sure who wrote the article or when it was written but it may be helpful to someone researching Bloom Township for the mentioned surnames.
Name corrections:
Zephania - should be Zephaniah
Affy - should be Effie
Nickolas - should be Nicholas
I copied the article exactly the way it was written.
I entered blanks for those still living or possibly living.
The information in parentheses I added."

Hard to read occupations as the image is dark in the corner where the writing is. Father's occupation looks like a laborer at a [Lens?] factory. Mother's is a "washwoman"? Opal's is a nurse. Alva's is a laborer at shoe factory.
