Slowly but surely I hope to at least learn why the middle brother has not given permission for his phone number to be given to me. Connie, their mother and I both were so very happy to be in touch with each other. The only problem we have in communicating, Connie does not have a computer;so everything has to be written. We have received cards from her along with the album of the boys and families. I have also sent cards and letters.
Another great thing has happened when my e-mail address appeared in dream book I had a great aunt and her son begin corresponding with me. I had lost track of them for only 30+years. | Comments: | I haven't been on this site for several years now, as I've been taking care of my mother, Burnilda (Foor) Buchholz, who has lived in Coal Valley, Il. for the last 50 yrs. on a farm. She had a stroke, followed by a full hysterectomy when we learned she had ovarian cancer. For 3 yrs. she has needed some daily housekeeping, health care, home modifications and chauffering to everywhere she needed to go. This was done by my sister and I while I continued working fulltime. My 2 younger brothers have helped and the farm is still going as a farm. Mom died Dec. 12, 2006 at the farm in Coal Valley with all the family surrounding her. WE are grieving, but know she has gone to be with the Lord, as she was a devout Christian woman who read the Bible and many other books daily. We are blessed to have had such a good mother. Her father was Frank Foor, who lived in Tower Hill, Pana, Shelbyville, Il. Frank's 2nd marriage to Sylvia Henderson produced twin girls, who are in their 50's and live in S. Ill. I'll get thru the website as much as possible and I'm glad to be back, but sad to report my mom's death. Bless you for keeping this going!

Daniel's older sister Hester Cupp married George Fredrich Foor in 1824 in Fairfield County, Ohio. They had at least 12 children, all born in Ohio, so I must be distantly related to some Ohio Foors now.
Daniel Cupp moved with his family to Wood County, Ohio about 1839, and then to Eaton County, Michigan, about 1862. George and Hester Foor stayed in Fairfield County. I was born in 1931 in Washtenaw County, Michigan. My father was Paul Cupp, born 1890 in Eaton County, MI. My grandfather was William Charles Cupp, born 1845 in Wood County, Ohio. My great-grandfather was Daniel Cupp, born 1807 in Fairfield County, Ohio. My great-great-grandfather was Philip Cupp, born 1784, probably in Northampton County, Pennsylvania. I have only recently become interested in tracing my family history. Genealogy is addictive. My great-great-grandfather had nine children and my great-grandfather had seven. One of my goals now is to locate at least one living descendant of each of those children. I am now retired and living on the north California coast. | Comments: | HI to all the 4's out there.Wow! I didn't have any idea just how BIG this line was. I found this site by putting in the name "Fuhr Genealogy" online. This is a wonderful and informative site....thanks very much for all the work you have done. A few months ago I found out that I am connected to the Fuhr/Foor line from PA. How I am connected is, my great grandmother Keziah was a Fuhr. Her mother's name was Catherine. I found Catherine Fuhr and my g-grandmother Keziah as a child on the 1850 Philadelphia, PA census. Her sisters and brother are on there, too. Her sister Margaret was 20 in 1850, her sister Mary E. was 4 and her brother Joseph was 12. Keziah was 8 and their mother Catherine was 49. I figured Catherine was born in 1799 as her death record which I have says she died Nov 1873 being 74 years of age. She is buried in Philadelphia, PA. My problem is I have not yet been able to find out Catherine's husband's name....he was a Fuhr. I have searched through many records and have yet to find him or any mention of any Fuhr/Foor marrying. I am at a lost and a stand still. I have many Fuhr/Foor anmes in my PAF but have no way to connect yet.
Keziah Fuhr married William Norbeck in Philadelphis in 1859. On the 1860 Census it is just her and William as her first child eas born a few weeks later. | Comments: | Hi, I'm trying to trace back my family. My grandmother is ESTHER FOOR, who is the daughter of HUBERT E. and HAZEL FOOR. I have traced a straight line back to Johann FUHRER (FUHR?). My grandmother's parents died when she was young. I believe Hubert died in 1940 and his wife, Hazel (his sister is also named Hazel) died in 1954. I'm not sure of my great grandma Hazel's maiden name, but I was told it could be STEWART.

They are as follows; Mrs. Mary Jane Foor Aged Bedford Coutian Dies:Dated 1944 Mrs. Mary Jane Foor (Shaffer) aged 87, widow of the late Leonard J. Foor and well known resident of Bedford County, died at 11:15 last night at home of her daughter, Mrs. William H. Edwards of 602 East Bell Ave. She was born at Brush Creek Valley, Oct. 28, 1857, a daughter of the late Levi and Lydia Shaffer, and was the mother of ten children, of whom the following survive. Levi and Arthur Foor of Mount Union, Hays Foor of Everett, Jason Foor of Lambertonville, N.J., Mrs. Blanche Shingler of Mondesto, CA., Mrs. Amanda Edwards with whom she lived with when she died. Also suurviving are twenty-eight grandchildren, thirty-six great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild. Several grandsons are serving in the armed forces. Mrs. Foor was a member of the Rays Cove Christian church near Breezewood, since early childhood. Friends may call at Balentine's Funeral Home in Everett, PA after 4 o'clock Wednesday afternoon. That would of been a grandmother of my grandfather. Then their was one for my grandmother's grandmother we guessed there is no date on this. Mrs. Mary Jane Croyle Widow of Fred Croyle, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Maden Dillinger at Queen, Bedford county. This morning at 3 o'clock. Death being attributed to complications. She was born in Saxton, October 12, 1850, the daughter of the late Samuel and Nancy Eicher, both had resided in the area of Queen. Her husband died 14 years ago. She is survived by the following children: Herman Croyle of of Youngstown, Ohio, Mrs. Maden Dellinger, with whom she made home with, Ellisworth of of Imler, Two children are deceased. She is also survived by the following brother's and sister's: George Eicher of East Freedom, Alexander Eicher of Queen, David Eicher of Cleveland, Ohio, Mrs. Elizabeth Burket and Mrs. Thomas Roudabush of Queen, thirteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was a life long memeber of the Queen Lutheran Church. Funeral services will be conducted on Sunday morning at 10:30 in the Greenfield Reformed Church by Rev. Porter, pastor of the Methodist Church. Interment will be made in the Greenfield cementary. My mother was unaware that both of what we believe would of been her great-grandmothers where named Mary Jane. |

| Comments: | Found a connection to my family and the Foor family, namely "Christian PITZER". Christian PITZER married "Maria Elizabetha Reede". Christian Pitzer was the son of Ulrich PITZER. Ulrich PITZER emigrated to the U.S. aboard the ship "Adventure Galley" in 1727. The "Adventure Galley" departed Rotterdam, via Plymouth, England and landed in Philadelphia in October, 1727. Ulrich PITZER spent a short time (?) in Pennsylvania, then settled in Virginia. I have additional information on the Pitzer line. You're welcome to it.

Large segment of my ancestors are from Bedford county as well going back to my Great Grandfather Israel Spencer and Grandfather David Spencer. Somehow, we are connected to the Bedford / Rays Cove Foors as well. I am not sure exactly how, but when you are going to the Church, Cemetary, etc. on the right just before you get there, was the home place of George and Jennie Foor. We always called them Aunt & Uncle and visited regularly (4 / 5 times a year) when I was a kid (1950's).
David Spencer is listed in the www.foorgenealogy.com site with no date info. I think this may be my Grandfather.In addition, there is mention of some Lynn family connections with a Lynn marrying a Foor. I have to do a little more research but I may be "Double related". My Grandfather David, fathered several children prior to marrying my Grandmother. One of these was a Lynn that lived at Six Mile Run, PA. He was my 1/2 Uncle. I have to look up his first name. We always called him by nickname (Ducky). The other two children were girls and I have to look up the names for them also. I have the info at my home place down by Saxton. It also explains what Mary Buck is doing living with Jacob Foor. For the record, Sarah's father might possibly be Amos Jones, but I can't back it up.
I don't have enough Cashman information to place Mary Cashman. Could you have the birth of William Buck wrong? Could it possibly be William L. Buck, born 1857 and md (1) a name I couldn't decipher, in Ohio. You mention he married twice. His father, John kept moving back and forth from Madison and Franklin Counties in Ohio to Bedford Co. PA. It is possible his sons did too. Letter from John 10 Sep 1877 from London, Madison, Ohio: "One of my boys married a girl here and they have gone to keeping house here, so if my letter does not come to hand in time he can lift it and remail. His name is William L. Buck, he married a girl by name of Any (Annie?) Rit Chenny. She is a millener and mantel maker and still works at her trade. Re: Jacob I. Foor and Mary Cashman. How much information do you have on this marriage? Who is Mary Cashman? I am hoping you can help me straighten a few things out. I hope the following doesn't sound too confusing. I am a descendant of Catharine Cashman (c1767 to after 1816) and David Buck, Sr. (c1745-1816) of Providence Twp, Bedford Co., PA. Catharine's father was probably Martin or Johannes Martin Cashman. They are thought to have had the following children: Christopher, George, Elizabeth and Catharine. David and Catharine (Cashman) Buck had a daughter, Mary Buck, born 11 Oct 1800 in Providence Twp, Bedford Co., PA. This same Mary is living with Jacob I. Foor in the 1860 census. Jacob does not have a wife, but he has two young daughters. The next census entry is of Soloman Sparks with wife Susan. I believe that Susan is Mary's sister, Susan Buck. I have a transcript of three letters from John (Jonathan Buck)son of David Buck, brother to Mary and Susan. The first letter dated March 6, 1875 was written in Bedford Co. The first part is missing. One sentence reads, "Aunt Mary Buck is well, Catharine too, neather one of them lives with me now since last spring. Catharine lives with Assa Williams, Aunt lives with Jacob Foor, no other change in our family. Been very healthy this winter." "Aunt" is Mary Buck born in 1800 and the same Mary Buck living with Jacob I. Foor in 1860. Catharine is John's sister. My records indicate Mary never married, but had a daughter, Sarah. I have really been trying to figure out the relationship between Mary Buck and Jacob Foor. I have not been able to locate any of the Cashman family in the Bedford Co. census records. Any ideas? | Comments: | My father is John Lucius Foor from Bedford County, PA. He is the 5th child of Jason Elton Foor and Edith Pearl (Irvin) Foor. When I was a little girl my dad told me lots of stories about the Fuhr/Foor family. According to him, 3 brothers came to America from Amsterdam via Ireland?? One settled in PA, one went south and the other west, maybe to Montana. He had great stories about a feud between 2 factions of the Philadelphia Foors. One brother became wealthy and another didn't. He also mentioned an ancestor who was a ranking officer in the Revolution, who fought beside George Washington. One relative who supposedly was hanged for horse theft (he was from the other side). And the biggest tale of all-That the family owned all the land which is now Philadelphia, But it was taken from them by the Government. I'm looking forward to finding out how much of his stories are true. |

Kinda hit this site by accident, but find it interesting. We just celebrated our 85th??? Foor reunion near Breezewood, PA. on the first sat. in August as we do every aug. We had about 750 there at noon for the meal. We own our own grounds which sits beside Rays Cove Church. The cemetary is loaded with Foor kin. My great grandfather, Simon Jasper Newton Foor is buried here. We had a family tree done I think in the late sixties. Went back to Germany to a Johann Fuhr. Boyd Foor also did a military history on our Foor family. |
