I have some linkage to the Foors in canal Winchester, OH. Here is some information I gave about the William foor Hotels. Here is some information on the William Foor Hotels, in response to your request on the internet "FOOR" website. I also have some dishes from my great-uncle's hotels. Uncle Will had 3 hotels in the 1920's. The George Washington Hotel in Washington, PA, th Francis Marion in Charleston, SC and another in Brooklyn, NY. They were lost to the Foor family during the depression. All 3 were 10 stories high with a similar design. They were full service hotels and would be first class by today's standards. They had elaborate ballrooms, dining rooms and many other features. The George Washington is now an apartment building. The Francis Marion has been refurbished and re-opened as part of a national chain. I have not visited the Brooklyn facility, so I cannot tell yo the current status. My father, Morris Bowman Foor, worked in the George Washington Hotel for his uncle William Foor during the 1920's. He met my mother, C. Alberta Tarr, who worked in the hotel. I was born in Washington, PA in 1932 and am the only male Foor in this family. y uncle, Francis Foor worked for his uncle, William Foor in the Francis Marion Hotel, also in the 1920's. He met and married Doris who was also working in the Foor Hotel. They had no children. I am very interested in finding some linkages to my family. My Father lived in Covington, KY as a child. He was orphaned in 1911 and was raised in Indianapolis, IN by John D. and Fanny B. Volz. They and several other family members are buried in the Crow Hill Cemetery in Indianapolis, where I visited just last weekend. I just discovered your web page. Pronounce Foor? I think it depends on who you ask. Some pronounce it like the number FOUR, and then tack on phrases to their address labels like "Two-by-Foors" ;> Although we aren't Foors, our Foor relations pronounced the double-o as in "zoo" or "phoo y" or "ew".

I have gathered a lot of new information on my Foor line. Would you like to have an update? Joseph Foor, Sr.s second wife was named Mary Rilea, not Relia as you have it. Her father was Richard Rilea, Rev. War soldier from VA. I am on the trail of Joseph' family perhaps from MD and perhaps French and originally named Firor. the Rilea family was also French most likely. Joseph Jrs. wife was Celia Stanfield, daughter of Thomas Stanfield who descended from very early Quakers into Delaware. My Grand-father was a Foor. Our Foor family name according to the research was Fuhr (George, David, Henric, and John 1700's) and by the late 1700's it became Foor. 1775 Jacob Foor and John Foor 1777 are two of the men listed in the research. We are fro Bedford County Pennsylvania.

On misc. info.--the Tracy and Kevin Foor who graduated from Harmony are my daughter and son. Their dad was Terry who died in 1991. His dad was Lewis of Wapello, IA. There are still several Foors in the Wapello area--Billy, David, Randy--all closely rel ted. I am a school teacher and this is on my computer at school. Just checked in today but won't be on daily.
